I put on my jacket to go grocery shopping this morning and, as I was walking down the street, I put my hand over my shirt pocket (as I am prone to do) to make certain I had my wallet with me. I felt my wallet beneath my jacket, but I felt something else, too. . . a pile of coins in my jacket pocket.

I found $13.60 cents worth of coins there.

Now, before you wonder how I could not notice $13.60 cents worth of coins, it's not that difficult when there are only 9 coins: 5 Toonies, 1 Loonie, 2 quarters (25 cents), and 1 dime (10 cents).

Please observe:

Coins instead of paper money isn't as big a deal as you might think. I don't mind them at all.

it's always nice to find extra cash...

Yes, indeed. Always a happy discovery. The coins you picture are so clean, almost like proof grade.

Once I found a twenty dollar bill folded in an out of season coat pocket. Made my day!

i know growing up my mom LOVED doing my laundry cuz i never checked my pockets .

Good for you. At the rate we are going in the US, that must be about $8 our money.

I found over 200 dollars on the pocket of an old shirt. Good thing I didn't throw the shirt away.

So a Loonie is $3.0 Canadian I guess yet is looks a lesser coin than than a toonie. I learn something new all the time.

In the photo, the Toonies ($2 coins) are on the left. The copper-coloured Loonie ($1) is the 6th coin from the left, then 2 quarters, and finally the dime on the right side.

Edited to add that the Loonie is called that because it has the image of a loon on the 'tail' side of the coin. The Toonie (or 'Twonie') is called that because it rhymes with 'Loonie'. It has a polar bear on the 'tail'.

forgive me, but wouldn't that be $11.60?

anyway, the most i've found was $20 in a jeans pocket of summer clothes during the next summer.

Damn! And I was feeling so excited by the windfall!!

(Actually, this is a we bit embarrassing. . . !oops! )

heh its funny im seeing this thread now. i was doing some laundry today and i see this pair of shorts covered in mud and i remember how last week i was goofing off with my friends at the park playing football (not really football but more like throw the ball at eachother and whoever catches it gets tackled) and i empty the pocket and holy crap there was 60$ inside. i was like OH FECK YES! :)

I just toss all my change in a container and twice a year I go to my bank and convert it to paper money. Because i never carry change with my unless i get it back from a transaction, I save up like 30 bucks.... even tho its money i already have, it feels like getting 30 dollars for nothing... its like Christmas or my birthday.... lol :D

Hahaha I gather it up, and then never go change it in. I think I'm mental.

I've got around £35 in my skull-shaped money box, £50 in notes hidden away for urgent needs, and probably another £20 all bagged and ready to be taken in.

I don't really know why I don't do it.

i had this container about the size of a large ovaltine bottle filled with spare change that i would find around the house when i was young.

it got full, so one day i took it to this machine that you could pour the change into and it would give you cash.

i got $180 out of it.

not bad for an ten year old. ;)
