Yeah, it's like an old over ripe peach that's not juicy or sweet anymore. Maybe a better word to describe the texture would be mealy? Maybe we just picked them when they were too old.

Star fruit or carambola tastes odd, but my dad was a fan.
There's a really aromatic fruit, in Chinese it's fan-shi-liu or guava that I really love the scent of. Not so much the eating, just the beautiful scent. There's a type that goes yellow, and the flesh softens, and the smell is like pear drops.
I'm not a fan of durian, and it's custardy texture. It doesn't smell like cat shit to me, as other people have told me, but rather gas from the cooker.
