So i had unprotected sex(spare me the lectures) with a guy who`s currently my boyfriend.
About a week later .. i got sick .. i thought it was food poisoning and then after 3 days i had a pretty nasty rash .. red itchy bumps .. and now (two months later) .. i started remembering what i had and kinda getting the pieces together.
I read sooooooooooo much on HIV online .. each symptom that i would read .. i would think that i have it .. i`v been stressing over this for a week now.
Yesterday was particularly hard and I was sooooooo stressed reading about hiv.
about two hours ago i noticed brown protruding spots on my neck and chest .. about 3 of them .. and of course i went online trying to get a diagnosis.. and again STD s.
since it has been only two months after possibly getting infected.. i don`t think an HIV test would be accurate . so i`m going with the guy for him to get tested and we`ll take it from there for now.
i think we`ll do it Monday..

You might need to go to a hospital and ask to get screened for any STD's. That would be the safest and best bet. Be honest with the doctors and tell them you had unprotected sex and you are worried.

First of all calm down, second stop looking online and stop self diagnosing. Now to put your mind at rest go to the doctor and get tested. Like Ambrocius said be very honest with your Doctor, it is only to your advantage.

From my understanding the test will be accurate but they may ask you to get tested again in a few months just to be sure.

Ben,
There are lots of different causes of rashes and for the most part a STI screen would be useful however its correct there is a chance that if you're seroconverting to HIV there is a chance that an antibody test may come back negative.
That said there is testing for actual HIV virus or a protein P24 both of which are high in seroconversion.
Clearly you are concerned. I recommending having a chat with your local sexual health service to discuss options available to you.

So, this guy is your boyfriend now? What's up with him? Did you talk to him about your concern? When did he last get tested for STDs, HIV? I think talking with him, since you know him and have access to him, would be helpful.

We get a lot of posts from people who have had high risk sexual encounters who then panic and attribute every sore throat, every rash and ever symptom to a possible HIV infection.

More often than not, a cold is just a cold.

An HIV antibody test is >90% accurate at 6 weeks. We generally recommend repeating the test at 3 months to confirm the previous result.

If you want to put your mind at ease, go get STD testing and practice safer sex from now on.

Thanks guys for the input , its just that .. What if its positive ?! OMG ! my life is O-V-E-R !
i`m in freakin med school . i spend all my time in hospitals.. anyways ,. we`re goin to the test either tomorrow or the day after tomorrow..
*fingers crossed*

First of all, while a serious, life changing and devastating illness, your life would NOT be over.

Though they face multiple challenges and will forever, those with HIV are living productive lives and are aging well into their 60s and 70s. Yes, you could still be a doctor.

Second, you need to relax because you probably DID get food poisoning and the rash could have just been an allergic reaction or sunburn. Attributing any flu like symptoms to acute HIV (even within the window period) is near pointless because they could be anything.

The only time one should likely be worried is if they are seriously ill and need immediate medical attention, like hospitalization.

Just get the test (at two months, its likely accurate) and another one at the three month mark to confirm.

Consider this a learning experience.

It has been a long time since i posted this thread .. but today i went together with the guy . and GOT CHECKED!
will get results tomorrow at 14:00 ! so nervous!

Good luck!!! I know what you must be going through, since a couple of months ago I was also freaking out thinking I got the virus, since I did test positive on the first test, but it was a false positive when it was checked!

So from my own experience all I can tell you is to try to relax. It's not easy, but you can't be sure of anything until you get the confirmation. Try to do an activity which will require your mind to turn away from the anxiety, so the hours will go by more quickly until you get the results. In my case, when I was heading to the clinic, feeling soo nervous that I couldn't bare it any more, I ran into a friend of mine, so I got distracted, we chatted for a minute or so, laughed about something, said goodbye, and that was so relieving and distracting, that I felt better after that.

Having symptoms doesn't mean that you have HIV, so don't think that you caught the virus only based on that. But I do understand your fears and your concerns, but don't assume anything just yet.

Feel free to pm me if you need to talk to someone, but I'm confident you'll be ok! And if it doesn't turn out OK, remember this is not the end of anything.

Thanks .. actually the guy is with me now.. so at least i`m not goin through this alone.

I will let him take his results first tomorrow .. so at least i would know what to expect when she tells me !
*finger crossed*

It's important that you're not alone! And that you'll get the results together. The important thing is if you're able to stick together even if you receive bad news.

BTW, even if you're together today until tomorrow, don't stay there sitting thinking only about the results. Try to get your minds off it, however difficult it may be, or otherwise this wait will torture you.

Best of luck and I'm hoping you get good news. You had said you and the other guy were going to get tested. Did you do that? Obviously you dont have to say but if his results were negative then you shouldn't have too much to worry about.

If you get bad news don't make any hasty decisions. Yes, HIV is a serious illness but being in med school you should know that there are many treatment options and your life would NOT be over. There are many people with HIV that are living happy, productive lives.

Best of luck and I'm hoping you can put this behind you very soon.

Okkay so here's wt happened , we were supposed o go there at 14:00 to take results. And the guy im with told me that he had to go to his university at 13:00 and then to the clinic. I got kinda mad becuz he didnt tell me but i was also happy that hes neg. Then i took a taxi and went there and got my results ,also negative))))))) After this exp. I've learned to appreciate life alot more!! And to be ALWAYS safe!!!! And most importantly dont self diagnose urself! Dont google anything! I mean i had all the
.. A rash, swollen throat, thush, nausea, chills .Which most of them were from the food poisoning i got! Finally, i wanna thank u guys for ur support. It really means alot. Ben.
