Due to my age there is no way I would walk up to a complete stranger and give them a compliment whatever their age. But if we are introduced or they form a part of the group I am in then I find it completely acceptable behaviour.

Everyone should be capable of giving a compliment without salivating or exploring their body with your eyes.

Internet is a different matter. If someone posts a photograph here then I presume it is with the desire to share their appearance with members and with a slight wish to harvest a few compliments. I accept that as an introduction and therefore the above conditions apply.

I think those members for whom I have a soft spot are well aware of it and would be extremely dimwitted if they didn't realise that there is definitely a sexual attraction as well.

But you can compliment and interact with people without coming over as a troll; it is all a question of language and communication both associated with honesty.

I don't know about others, but I can tell the difference between a genuine compliment and a come on. Either way, I don't mind unless it's completely inappropriate or creepy. It honestly has nothing to do with age or looks.

Yes, sometimes it is a compliment, and unfortunately sometimes it comes across as a down payment.

A compliment is always appreciated. If there is an agenda behind it and I'm not interested, I don't even mind slightly pushy guys, as long as they're willing to get let down easy. If they're not willing to get let down easy, they're going to get let down hard.

By the way, one of the sincerest compliments I received was from a miserable asshole twice my age who was dying of aids. He was completely sincere, and it was a welcome and memorable compliment. I was honoured to have made an impression.
