IMO, all of that is what you work up to. Trying to start out there would be overwhelming and difficult. I think you have to make small, easy changes. Get some progress under your belt that encourages you to build up from there.
Make one or two changes in diet and exercise at first. Cutting out, or severely cutting back on, soda and alcohol is a good start for diet. Lots of empty calories there. Throwing on some sweats and going for a brisk 20-30 minute walk is an easy one for exercise that doesn't require money and a contract to do. You could do it right now.
Certainly whatever one can do right now should be done. Now! But the sooner one makes radical changes, gets all of the junk out of the kitchen and alters not simply one's diet but one's tastes the better. Gradual steps can be drawn out forever, and be used as an excuse for never making the really most important and productive changes. I say, just do it!
