I have had AS for about 15 years now and let me assure you that it's not the end of the world, although it may seem that way now. Since i was diagnosed i have met many others with the condition but never anyone in a wheelchair, the condition would have to be severe for it to come to that.
The best treatment for AS is exercise, drugs can help if there is any pain involved, but exercise is the best way to stop it progressing. Because of this your boyfriends future is to a certain extent in his own hands, not to say that he won't need help and support, but with regular exercise he can help to control the disease and not let it control him. It can get you down at times so he will need your support and encouragement.
There is no reason why he will not go on to lead a full and fullfilling life, like many of us with AS do.
Please feel free to message me if you have any questions, stay positive,
Lee.
