I have had AS for about 15 years now and let me assure you that it's not the end of the world, although it may seem that way now. Since i was diagnosed i have met many others with the condition but never anyone in a wheelchair, the condition would have to be severe for it to come to that.

The best treatment for AS is exercise, drugs can help if there is any pain involved, but exercise is the best way to stop it progressing. Because of this your boyfriends future is to a certain extent in his own hands, not to say that he won't need help and support, but with regular exercise he can help to control the disease and not let it control him. It can get you down at times so he will need your support and encouragement.

There is no reason why he will not go on to lead a full and fullfilling life, like many of us with AS do.

Please feel free to message me if you have any questions, stay positive,

Lee.

thank you....
queston..... is there some kind of machine that I can purchase to help the

You have a good advisor in Lancshotpot, and you can be assured that many of us will remember you and your friend in our prayers.

Ask his Doc about a referral to Physical Therapy. They will know the answers to your question and can either treat him or instruct you in treating him.

At any rate, it probably isn't a bad idea to establish a connection with P.T. from the start.

You guys are in my thoughts and prayers too. (*8*)

You might as well waft him with a feather for the difference that herbs and vegetables will make - also, I'm not quite sure what the evidence base for prayers is in the Tx of Ank. Spond.. I must look it up (bucco-lingual proximity). Secondly, it's not a bone disease - it's a disease that affects the cartilage around the bone - calcium won't make much difference.

Anyway...

The best treatment for Ank Spond is exercise - and plenty of it. He'll probably have more luck taking NSAIDs, paracetemol and steroids than he would from herbs, prayers and alternativists. Most Ank. Sponders don't end up in a wheelchair anyway - most just have a bit of a dicky back in the mornings.
