I have Mcafee and absolutely hate it. I hate when it updates because it slows everything down. When scanning it always takes forever to move pass 10% and just simply doesnt work.

Any programs that you guys recommend for virus/spyware ??

I'm with andysayshi, AVG is free and it works great. It does not hog resources like Norton or McAfee. If you want to pay, Microsofts Windows Live One Care works well in the background. With rebates I paid around $12 bucks for it at Staples.

The latest AVG versions were a bit too "aggressive" for me, lots of false positives. Now I'm currently using Avast.

I'm with Paws AVG is to aggressive but I found it so about 9 months ago. I'm running Avira Free it's good and doesn't waste time searching files that don't carry virus or malware etc.

AVG is one of the best software's out there in my experience. The bonus is that they have a free version that works just fine for personal use. Good Luck!

Avast and Anti-Vir were both recommended to me by a tech who recently installed my new hard drive. I already had 'em, though. Ha!

I've always found AVG the best. Currently running v8.5 and have not had any problems, although I do set it to not automatically scan, rather kick this off when I am ready to shut-down, switch on the setting to turn-off pc when finished.

I used Antivir for a long while too but was fed up with the ad window that popped up with every update.

Imagine you're playing a game or watching a video in fullscreen mode - suddenly the screen switches back to the Windows desktop and an ad shows up "HI HERE'S UR ANTIVIRUZ PLZ BUY MY FULL VERSION".

Fucking annoying.

I have Mcafee on one of my computers and that is exactly the same thing that I find so irritating about it. I do like the shredder feature and the spam filter, but other than those two features I have grown to dislike Mcafee very much.

I use Norton on my other computer and find that it isn't a resource hog at all. It scans and updates without any deterioration in performance.

Hate McAfee too...and Norton. I've used Avast for years and it has always worked great and best of all FREE!

I used to use mcafee and nortons. i've been using AVG for about 3 years and i like it a lot. i'd say that even for free it's one of the better ones out there.

I would recommend ESET Smart Security.

We used to recommend AVG but have noticed (Especially in the last 4-5 months) that a lot of things are getting past it. We seem to be getting more and more computers in that have AVG and viruses. It's also getting pretty bloated. Prices on ESET are pretty good too, especially if you are buying multiple licenses.

Stay away from Norton!! The best bit of software Symantec do is called the Norton Removal Tool. I've lost count of the number of times I have fixed customers computers with that! Norton regularly seems to fuck up network connections on computers, even if it's been uninstalled!

^^

NOD32 is by far the best anti-virus that I have ever used. I have never installed Smart Security, but ESET writes good software; not too intrusive, but gets the job done and well.

thanks :)

I went with ESET Smart Security and it runs smoothly. My computer doesnt take ages to load like it used to with Mcafee.

mine is KAV (Kaspersky Anti Virus), it works just fine... like it better than AVG or Norton
