1st: I'm running windows XP. When I first got FF it worked fine. Now I get the error message "The server at www.xxx.com is taking too long to respond." I am on dial up so I figure that is the problem, BUT it worked fine when I first got it on the same dial up system. I downloaded v2 and it gives me that same message. Your help will be GREATLY appreciated. Oh yeah, I have Opera and it works fine. But ya'll drive me nuts about how great FF is. And I really liked it when it worked.

Does this happen to any site you go to, or just specific sites? If so, what sites are you having the problems with?

I am pissed that i upgraded to 2.0.

First the cache starting messing up which i could live with. But today i opened up the browser and i lost ally my history sites even though the option is set not to erase the sites.

Also it wasnt loading Justusboys.com correctly. The forums page showed up regualr but the home page was weird looking. That the best description i could use lol, it just didnt load properly.

No more upgrades.

are you using some kind of firewall software?

are you using some kind of firewall software?

Sorry to come back to this so late. I have other inquiries about this out there and with the CE&P addiction I have, I forgot I put this ques here.

Well it seems I have the Sygate Personal Firewall from Norton System Works turned on. Now I gotta figure out how to turn it off.

Thanks for any help.!oops!

Yeah, Sygate is not good. I have ZoneAlarm on my PC and it doesn't give me any trouble. It's free, too!

There's got to be some option somewhere to easily turn it off. See if there's some kind of options menu that you can use to turn it off? Or close the program? Find out what the process name is and kill it.

Dunno what else to tell you.

Thanks BlueStreaker
I had Zone Alarm at one time, I wonder what I did with it. Will try it again.
I can't find any thing about turning that sygate off. I've looked in options and all thru it. My subscription to Norton ran out this past week I'm surprised it is still working.
Thanks:wave:

Norton (EEEEEW) will keep WORKING...............it just won't update anymore.
Scrap it and get AVAST or AVG.............they're both great and FREE.
Zone Alarm nearly took out my OS once...........don't know what it was but my system sure didn't like it..........................I think I was running 98-2 then......

Thanks Getstoseven wow
will try these . haven't heard of them b4

Well Norton is history!!, kaput. Couldn't find a free version of Avast but found the AVG free. got it!
But!! Firefox is stilll saying websites taking too long to respond. I didnot download the firewall for AVG soooooo.
Thanks for your help in AVG.
](*,)

Go to www.Avast.com then to downloads, then to home version. Avast is better than AVG and anything by Norton (Symantec) SUCKS!!!

But since you've already got AVG free you may not want to do that now.

Thanks gewhite
I downloaded avast anyway for back up incase I don't like the AVG....
so many questions.... not enough smarts...

Turn off IPv6 in Firefox - you don't need it and it slows down FF something terrible.

Type (in the address bar) 'about:config' (without the quotes) and use the filter to look for 'ipv6'. Set it from false to true.

Check Add/Remove Programs in the Control Panel for any Firewall Programs.

And get back to us all.

U R A Sweetheart!!! I love you
I changed the IPv6 and I'm using FF right now. I went to add/remove and found Sygate personal firewall still in there. I uninstalled Norton and figured that was it but aha it wasn't.
One of these days I will be able to remember all this stuff ...
Thank you thank you , your job is done!!!!(!) (*8*)
