There is little I can add to the above. It is very sound advice. You've got a good, sensible head on your shoulders, Danno. I'm sure you'll do fine in the long run.

I also agree with the advice stevenavy2003 gave. Relax, you'll have your house, etc.. in no time at all. And Happy Belated Birthday.

(I do have to say that T-Rexx's advice DOES sound like a bit of fun! ;) )

And here was me thinking that you just get by on your looks!! ;)

I can't really add to the advice already given, other than the part-time job. Many offices/local councils have 'twilight' shifts, mostly doing data input, so if you can use a PC then you're well away. Basically look at the skills you already possess (not just those that you use in your current job, but also personal skills) and see if these can't help find you a part time job.

By the way, bar work always seems like a fun idea, but I certainly wouldn't say it was 'easy money' - it depends on how busy the bar is, and how decent the punters are !!

I managed to get my school loans paid by waiting tables...

Try and get in an upscale Dinner house, waiting tables in the evening, you can usally get a 4 hour shift. The tips are amazing if you give good service and fling lots of BS. I took all of my tips and applied to my loans.

I know it seems bleak now, but you will do fine.

Best of luck!!

wow - makes me really appreciate the system here in australia, even though it's gotten a bit tougher lately. Here the government pays for our degrees and we don't need to start paying them back until we earn more than $38,000 a year. (If you never earn that much, you never pay it back. :D ) But even then, they only take out 4% of your salary yearly.

Oh - but i have no advice.

Get a sugar daddy, maybe?

2. Find a reputable banker or investment broker. Sit down with them and allow them to conduct a complete financial review of your assets/liabilities/investments. At your age, you'll be able to make fantastic decisions that will benefit you in the long run a hundred-fold.

All, very good advice. Just be really careful on any new loan papers you sign. There are a lot of crazy loans out there and people looking to make a quick buck. You may want to see more than one councelor before making a decision, and try and see if at least one of them is from a non-profit.

there are consolidation loans that cover all debt, not just federal...

steve is right, get an advisor. they will definitely work with you.

they want money, not a default.

Dan, The advice Steve gave you is 110% right on. Don't stress over it, everything will work out, stay positive and enjoy being 23....Happy Birthday....Andy

At some point, $700 a month isn't going to seem like that much. And then you'll be able to accelerate paying off the loan. Unless the terms are great (ie low interest). Then it will make more sense to use your cash to buy a house and make money with it (via equity, appreciation).

I know my brother, who finished with a business degree, held onto his student loans as long as possible. He just loved that the interest was so low and that he could apply his money elsewhere. Good Luck Danno! :)

You should call the Suze Orman show on CNBC. I apply a lot of her advice all the time.

Danno - I do hope you found good advice above

Happy Birthday and please don't lose that smile
