  • Hi Guest - Did you know?
Hot Topics is a Safe for Work (SFW) forum.

I really do feel let down by JUB.

Hey, i think what your doing is fine, i've gotten into it before wiht big headed mods, over on neowin's website years ago, that's when i found Jub, and never went back.

I love the lack of empathy. :D

Then again, it is just a message board, no one is holding a gun to your head forcing you to post. If you really wanted to leave you would have done so without announcing it. I think this is attention grabbing in it's lowest form.

I feel bad that he feels he has to leave a place where he's had fun. But that is a personal decision.

Ultimately, this is another validation that we are operating somewhere in the center. Some complaints are for being too intrusive and heavy-handed. Some are for not getting involved enough.

We've here to let the most people possible voice their opinions possible and to have fun doing it. And we do tend to use a "tread lightly" approach in less critical situations.

None of us wants to ban people or edit their content. We want to encourage posting and freedom of expression whenever possible. I don't think that's a bad thing at all.

I think the Moderator in question was heavy handed when a more courteous approach would have been in order. I also think it's bad form that Seth and JD chose to ignore excase's PMs.

Frankly, I'm suprised at the unfriendly posts below. I would have though our fellow Jubber deserved more support.

If you're reading this, Alex, Good Luck! (*8*)

Okay, guys, you all can bash on me as much as you want; but when it comes to JD & Seth, they're off limits. Those two guys are extremely busy and, in the end, are working hard for you--to make JUB bigger, better and more fun (with more nekkid guys!) for you. If they haven't replied to your PMs yet, Alex, just know they're not ignoring you, but are busy. They've been spending less time on the boards and more in the other aspects of JUB. It speaks to their trust in the members and moderators that they feel they can take the time away.

Alex, I'd prefer not to see you leave; however, this is your own decision, one we must all make at some point in time.

Of course, by now everyone knows that I am the moderator who pissed off Alex. As I told him then, it certainly wasn't my intention to do so; however, sometimes even Mods need to take a break for the day. Perhaps I should have done then. But it doesn't really matter now, does it? It's done in the past. I hope those who know me know that I wouldn't intentionally offend another member; and I hope those who only know me through my posts get the same impression. I spend most of my time in Current Events & Politics, so (I'll freely admit that) I've probably become more blunt and to-the-point than most of my esteemed colleagues. That's the approach that works in that forum--when it works.

No, I'm not trying to excuse myself. Hell, if I were doing that, I wouldn't post this "confession," now would I? I am trying to say we're all human; we all make mistakes. I think it would be a mistake for you to leave, Alex. I obviously made a mistake in approaching you in the CE&P-fashion. I've apologized and I hope you can eventually accept that.

Now let's move on. :D

LOL - Feel free. I haven't yet had the privilege, but from those SA pics? Damn fine man!!

I just found this thread; I've been a bit down for a while and avoiding Hot Topics.

Seems to me that Andreus and others were overboard in calling this mod bashing; I read the OP as airing something he thought the community ought to hear, if for no other reason than to get it off his chest and maybe feel validated as a valuable member -- which it sounds like he has been, so it's sad to see him go.

As for the other substance in this thread... well, maybe I'll start a different thread with that as the topic.

Just a reminder to everyone .... the board we're on right now is just a small portion of the JUB site. Seriously, click on some of the links up top and check out some of the other areas. In addition to the forums, there is a ton of content here that JD & Seth are responsible for. Then there's also the Boy's Club membership site, the magazine, and some other websites under development. On any given day JD & Seth have a huge plateful of things to do. And while I'm sure that they wish they had more time to chat, they are running a business here, and they have to pay the bills like all the rest of us.

I received a few PMs to say I should write to the owners of JUB, JD and Seth .... and I did that. That was a couple of weeks ago, but I didn't get the courtesy of a reply from either of them.

I wrote again, but this second PM was also ignored.

As a 'JUB Supporter', one of the benefits of subscribing to the site is to be able to request a receipt for any PMs sent. Both Seth and JD, the owners of JUB, sent me an acknowledgement that my PM had been received and read ... but neither bothered to respond.
The Moderators springboksfan and snapcat are defending Seth and JD for not responding to excase33's PM's because they (Seth and JD) are "busy" with so many things to do on this site. Be that as it may, "customer relations" or, in this case, "member relations" is an important part of JUB and if Seth and JD are too busy to drop this particular member a few lines, they should have delegated this to one of their Administrators or Moderators.
It's not as if Seth and JD have to run JUB on their own. There are 11 Administrators and 19 Moderators ... that's a total of THIRY people behind the scenes. One of them should have written to excase33 once it became apparent they had a member with a problem that needed addressing.

From Mod bashing to excase bashing to Mod bashing to...

C'mon folks - this really isn't getting us anywhere.

I have said my piece on this somewhere before - I'll also say that, as SBF indicated, he likely was overly blunt.

Mods are (kinda) used to getting bashed - first requirement for being a Mod is to have a VERY thick skin, LOL - but I really don't see the point in bashing anyone else...which is kinda what is beginning to happen here.

As for JD and Seth replying to your PM - let me tell you, they have barely posted at all, even in the Mod Forums, in the last several weeks - even I had a whinge about that (but they haven't fired me yet ;)).

I really don't see the logic in walking away from a community that has given you pleasure because of an incident like this which is better forgotten.

If you are doing so because you didn't receive an answer from JD & Seth - well...you aren't alone just lately.

Let me put it this way - as mentioned by someone else, JUB has many facets (it is a multi-dimesional business, not just a forum with over 130,000 members) - and how many big business do you know where you will get an answer from one of the CEOs "just like that"?

Up until fairly recently that would likely have been the case here, but if it isn't at the moment, please don't take it to heart.

Alex - I hope you don't leave (it just doesn't seem like a very logical thing to do for these reasons) - or if you do, that you eventually decide to rejoin.

Either way - it's your choice...

Hmmm.

For someone who joined just last month, and has a couple of dozen posts, you seem to know an awful lot about how JUB works.

Am I the only one who doesn't believe you are who you say you are? Perhaps a stealthy member, or former Mod, with a grudge?

:p

Well I agree with Kulindahr. I don't think he was trying to air dirty laundry per say. He was expressing his thoughts and letting folks know about something he felt was important. that is not the same thing as coming on and saying "so and so mod is an ass because they did x,y, and z to me."

now having said that, we've also seen an apology by the moderator who upset excase33 (the OP). we've also seen excase33 say he was sorry for making a lot of "bad post" reports. i really think he was just enjoying the site and thought he was helping to serve JUB with his reports. hopefully he will come back and maybe him and spring can become friends. ..|

Rockhard, you say I "know an awful lot about JUB", presumably because I stated, in my earlier post (#66):

"There are 11 Administrators and 19 Moderators ... that's a total of THIRY people behind the scenes."

This is common knowledge. At the bottom of the Forum Index page, there's a 'click' called "View Groups" which takes you to a page for everyone to see. It lists those who work behind the scenes:

Moderators:

Autolycus
averageguy
Bashful
Brian_1
centexfarmer
Corny
Goula
jockboy01
looseliam
nwdavis
phoneguy2
quasar21
robertac
ronboy
snapcat
springboksfan
stevenavy2003
TriBi
Zeremonie

Administrators:

andymike
Corny
JD
JUB
kenneth10
keys
peterjub
Seth
Sha
site_developer
Thundercizzle

19 Moderators .... 11 Administrators .... a total of 30 people behind the scenes.

As I say, that page is quite clear and there for all members to see.
