  • Hi Guest - Did you know?

I really don't like nice people..

I like pumpkin pie. It's awesome.

can't good people be nice and nice people be good, though?

Look, I'm not a perfect person. I have my warts. I sometimes say things that get me in trouble. I wear suits that are cheap. But I say what I think and I believe what I say, and I'm willing to say things that are not popular but ordinary people know are right.

Nice people are a treat worth waiting for. It may take a life time of waiting. Be wary of the reality, that lies behind the mask of niceness.

^Exactly, anyone can be "nice", faking it.

To be "good" though. Either you are, or you aren't.....

I agree 100%. It really gets to me when people are preoccupied by politeness, being polite themselves and telling others to show the correct manners. Just to be correct, and not because they're good people. You know, the kind of person who will speak to an older woman in the nicest way, be very correct in social situations, but occasionaly shows to lack a profound goodness.

So you would prefer it if those people would treat old ladies like crap, and act like monkeys in social situations? I don't really see the reason you are so annoyed by them being nice to others.

That these people are not "good" people (by your standards) you immediately dismiss them and any attempt they make at being nice "gets to you"? pot/kettle/black?

NineofClubs, I think what you mean is that you don't like phony people; a lot of people are both nice and good.

Something like that.

I certainly appreciate manners and polite behavior, that isn't what I consider "nice".

To me "nice" is the fake smile, the insincere kind words, the pose of concern, etc.. Followed by disparaging words said behind one's back. Or some kind of dirty dealing.

So Nice is what I am with customers. I try to be helpful no matter how awkward and demanding they are, no matter how rude they are and yes, I may well put the phone down and say f...ing tosser, but at least they will be happy.

Good is the way I try to lead my life, try to treat others as I would want to be treated etc. When the goodness wears thin the niceness takes its place followed not far behind by pure venom. I think it is all about balance.

My point was that I'm bothered by the incoherency some people often show. Being nice in certain situations, only because that's what society requires them to be, while in more private situations being complete arses. You know, the type of person who obviously comes from a "nice home" and has all the good manners that follows, but turns out to be act completely different in a private setting.

The post I made might make me seem as a person who constantly feels in the position to judge whether people are "good" or "bad" people - having high standards at that. I am not. Of course I dislike certain people more than others, but I am wary to make a certain and finite impression of a person.

...I like good people.

Discuss.

Nice is a relative term. Nice could mean a good sense of humor, kindness, friendliness, or anything else a person wants it to mean.

i do think though that niceness is often looked down upon, since it means being weak, or pussyish or without a backbone. But i think in life, good actions beget good actions since life is reciprocal. and people treat you how you treat them. so being nice in a sense is a good thing and not being pussyish or weak.
