As jock and johnt pointed out, it happens whether or not you're gay or straight. Sadly, discrimination occurs wherever you go (whether you're gay, of a different culture, female, etc). One nighters happen in both worlds. I know of friendships where they're only your friend if they need something from you (I personally have friendships like that, and honestly I just don't consider them as friends).

I myself am in the process of coming out. I have seen the positives and the negatives it'll present. But if you're true to yourself and just live the way you want to... that's all that matters... You will find that someone who is in it for the long run.

Don't get discouraged.
The shades of gay are like the shades of gray. They run the gamut from almost black to almost white (and every shade in between).
Just be more selective in your choice of friends. Straight people run into the same dilemas when they use poor judgement in choosing friends, so their sexuality is no advantage over ours.
There are some wonderful gay people out there (and here).
Just observe peoples behavior more before opening your heart and arms to them.

It's not just gay people, I'm afraid. Even if you were straight, you'd encounter all of the same problems you listed. Being gay doesn't suck. People suck. Sucking doesn't discriminate.

It's all about meeting the right people.

where I am from, being gay is not socially accepted really, and I know none of my guy friends support it, so if they ever knew I would seriously question our friendships after that. It really sucks being gay, is it weird to feel this way, because I really am having difficult times being gay.
