I feel your pain, I recently had a infection in my big toe and that wasn't pleasant. It wasn't as bad as your experiance but still not nice

I remember having one taken care of years ago. The local anesthetic felt like a blow torch on my toe. But it was a real bad one. It had curled around inside the toe. It was like an inch long.

I'm still prone to them on the other big toe, but I've learned to take care of it myself when it starts. You deal with the pain.

I faint very easily - I can tell if I am in trouble as I start to sweat Profusely and become light headed. I always mention this to the drs/ nurses treating me.

Try not looking at the surgical instruments or the needle and Syringe.

If I see them, there is a good chance I shall faint immediately. Same thing with seeing blood.

If you can try having some juice (cranberry or apple seem to work best) and or a diet soda with you that you can drink right after the procedure, they will usually settle your stomach down right away,

And if you are having any injections into your arms - try lying down during the procedure and just close your eyes - don't look at what the nurse or dr. are doing.

And if you are having a surgical procedure where you can watch what they are doing on t.v. - forget it. I had them turn off the t.v. when I had two stynts inserted in arteries leading to the heart.

the local village idiot just trying to be helpful.

I had ingrown toenails on both big toes a few years back. They got so painful and sensitive I couldn't even wear socks (luckily it was summer and I could wear flip-flops). The podiatrist cut the sides out of the toenails and killed the roots so they wouldn't grow back. It was well worth any discomfort I experienced during the procedure.

Been there and done that not pleasant.

Here is a tip:
Soak your feet in hot water with a couple drops of baby oil. When you feet and nails are soft..Take a file (one of those sponge ones is the best) and file the TOPS of you nail. This will thin the nail and makes it much easier to clip and get the nail that is causing the problem. Now don't get carried away and damage the nail bed, just file enough to thin it a bit..

Thanks
Shaun

I really feel your pain. I had one that lasted for over a month... I really should've went to a doctor, but my insurance at the time sucked and I couldnt afford it. I fixed it by soaking in hot water with epsom salt every day. Just about a week after it was healed my other toe had the same problem, but I got on it right away and it was healed in a few days.

I agree, just cut em off!

I've had so many ingrown toenails in my life that it's a complete shame. I would pick at my toes constantly when I was younger. I never went to a doctor for them, either. I had one that was the result of picking the nail of one of my big toes that lasted so long - when the nail finally grew longer and I was able to pick the corner clean, out from the flesh came a pointy piece of nail that was about 3/16" long that had lived in it's puss-filled home for so long that it just crumbled into powder between my fingers. All the pain never made me change my ways. Needles to say, I finally managed to stop the toe (and finger, too) picking.

I had a nasty ingrown toe nail once. The infection was so bad, I practically had to crawl into the doctor's office. The bastard did not give me anything to numb it -- he just cut it out. But once that was done, I felt fine.
