Facebook...Youtube...Apple...The Googles...I swear someone has mastered reading thoughts!

It happened again. Today outta the blue while driving I was thinking about getting and new mountain bike. I have clip in shoes but don't always wanna wear them so I was thinking about hybrid pedals. Now I have not ridden, thought about riding, talked bout riding or done ANYTHING on the interwebs about bikes for literately years...then a Facebook sponsored post pops up about hybrid pedals this evening!

I would chalk it up to random coincidence but I swear to God that that same scenario plays out all the time for me.

I get web tracking, data collection, and individualized profile building...that is part of the game in using their services...but this takes it to a new level!

Excuse me while I go get a tin foil hat...ordered off Amazon...

I don't think it was random. Whether you talk about biking or not, you are probably in circles where that profile is likely. It was due to come up in time as a rotation of likely advertizements.

Let us know if you get an advert for antiperspirant.

I will bet it's the other way around.

Advertising has become a science. Ignore ads and click off all the popups that you want, but they still get into your head subliminally. Advertisers know their relentless and ubiquitous nature assures that sooner or later, their vile little thought parasites will get into your brain and fester there like consumeristic receptors. Hamster food....groove pliers...adult diapers...hybrid pedals: CLICK!!!

It's mind control, not mind reading.

Apparently they know I need bannetons, shoes and that I have been lazy about shaving. Which I do and am.

It isn't mind-reading.

It is interlinked tracking of the things you are looking up or articles you are reading.

Or they have you chipped.

Simple explanation. The ad had previously popped up somewhere and you glanced at it. You did not record it in your conscious mind but you retained it in your subconscious. Then later you started thinking about it as it creeped up from your subconscious. It's called subliminal.

Chances are that, with the flood of advertisements you see every day, some are bound to 'click'. It's just like telemarketers and spam Emails. What they're selling is bound to click with someone. Those are the odds that make the expense and effort worth while.

Maybe it is telepathy.

Just because you're paranoid doesn't mean they aren't out to get you.

No, I go with the telepathy. You are a test subject on which they will base new scientific research. Count on it. 😁.

I get data profiling and adaptive marketing...even on things we just talk about...the apps are listing and watching how we interact and react to things.

But more and more it is ads from things that are random thoughts...yes, you could argue that the seed was planted and it is all subliminal marketing but the hybrid pedal ad was just too direct of a connection after never having even uttered a thing about bikes in years nor in in a biking circle...and I know that catalyst for the thought process as to why it popped into my head. Ad for a new bike...I could understand...and add for such a specific accessory on a day outta the blue that I was thinking about in my car with ZERO context otherwise other than my own thought process...kinda weird.

THEY KNOW!

See my earlier post.

Meanwhile I keep receiving ads of racy chick-lit in German...

Good job.

I never get anything about cabbage

^ They are too busy vomiting when facing the prospect

I mentioned cycling in a PM here on JUB. The next day I was bombarded with cycling ads on my FB page. Nothing's safe.

^ Meanwhile, I could keep waiting forever for my fucking (pun totally intended  ) reds, gins, straws, sandies, goldies and what not, redneck, preppy or whatever, to be delivered over Rentmen, Planetromeo, Pasion...

AdBlock, NoScript, the windows 'hosts' file, and your router's website blocking, are your friends...

edit:
and for Android.. NoRoot Firewall.

^ But wouldn't that block only the proofs that would support your awareness of being spied, not the spying itself...
