  • Hi Guest - Did you know?
Hot Topics is a Safe for Work (SFW) forum.

I sweat they are now reading minds...

Chances are that, with the flood of advertisements you see every day, some are bound to 'click'. It's just like telemarketers and spam Emails. What they're selling is bound to click with someone. Those are the odds that make the expense and effort worth while.

This is also the explanation I find most likely. I get many advertisements for stuff I'm completely uninterested in (local supermarket chains, Grammarly, furniture from DIY stores, cars -don't drive). It's rare I even get custom ads these days.

It depends.. if you can block data being sent to the spy/ad server, it can't spy.

^ Indulge me in keeping my skepticism concerning the extent to which any Joe and Jane can block ALL sort of spying at all.

Re: I swear they are now reading minds...

So I mention to someone on the phone (landline, mark you) that when I try eating with chopsticks half the food falls off and lands on the floor, which might explain why Japanese people are so thin. Later that day this appears in my recommenations on YouTube.

The great thing is, I never really understood how insulin works before but now I've heard it explained in a language I don't understand, I understand it (with the captions turned on, anyway).

Facebook...Youtube...Apple...The Googles...I swear someone has mastered reading thoughts!

It happened again. Today outta the blue while driving I was thinking about getting and new mountain bike. I have clip in shoes but don't always wanna wear them so I was thinking about hybrid pedals. Now I have not ridden, thought about riding, talked bout riding or done ANYTHING on the interwebs about bikes for literately years...then a Facebook sponsored post pops up about hybrid pedals this evening!

I would chalk it up to random coincidence but I swear to God that that same scenario plays out all the time for me.

I get web tracking, data collection, and individualized profile building...that is part of the game in using their services...but this takes it to a new level!

Excuse me while I go get a tin foil hat...ordered off Amazon...
