We have a number of specific forums here at JUB which allow like-minded adults to discuss like-minded topics. That leaves the 'Hot Topics' forum for 'general discussion' - for those topics which don't fit into any of the other categories.

So, what constitutes a 'hot topic'? Discussion of gay-related issues pertinent to all of us? News items? World events?

Perhaps, but what about someone who has a really bad day and is sitting home alone with no-one to talk to but really feels the need to do so? It's certainly not a 'hot topic', but where else could he post it in JUB?

I'm all for a 'Hot Topics' forum, but there should be a 'general chat' forum where we can just sit back and shoot the breeze with our friends. But wait! That's what 'Hot Topics' is used for!!

Like I said, the 'Hot Topics' forum is misnamed.
 
The 'chat' is different. Discussions in there are more 'one-on-one' and not open to the public like a forum is open. In a forum, you can read the thread and respond as you wish. You can't really do that in the 'chat' without being 'intrusive'.
 
"Hot Topics" just sounds better to me. I think it should just stay as it is. It is just a label.

That the "Hot Topics" board is more than that does not bother me. I consider "Hot Topics" to be the general forum. I think that having a hot topics forum and a general forum is not necessary because the hot topics issues should be in the general forum.

I'm not suggesting that we change it. It has always been named 'Hot Topics', but it has rarely been used as such. I just think that it should be considered a 'general conversation' area.
 
Hot topics is like an all you can eat buffet that has some of everything. What's considered a hot topic is in the eye of the beholder.

That's my point exactly. It's just sort of a 'coffee house' atmosphere where everyone drops by and sits around talking about whatever comes to mind or joining whichever conversation interests them. It doesn't necessarily have to be a 'hot' topic. . . just a topic which doesn't fit into another forum category.
 
How about:

"Essential exchange of epic mindfarts"

?
 
I understand "Hot Topics" as "Very Popular Topics". Threads that generate a big number of replies in a short time because many people are really interested in expressing their point of view. In my humble opinion, one thread has to achieve the status of being a hot topic. Until then, maybe should be stored in a place called "New Topics" or something like that. It could be a first filter.

To "clean" the actual "Hot Topics", congratulations and similar could have their own forum too.

"Fun & Games" is fine how it is. Don't need to be changed. We, the jubbers that like to post there, know very well what can we find there. What I don't like is the fact of considering F&G as the trash of jub.

Just my opinion. But I have said it before in another thread. I don't really care where the thread is stored. I browse jub using the new post button and don't forget that this is "Just Us Boys. Entertainment for Gay Men". Take it easy. It's only a website. Yes, a good and addictive one.
 
Hot topics just means you can talk about pretty much anything
 
we have a "sports talk" so why not a "sex talk"? then the mods could go through all 27,850 posts so far and separate them into the sex stuff vs. skin tags, new cars, and everything else.
