Hot Topics is a Safe for Work (SFW) forum.

I think its being homophobic

I wouldn't classsify this "condition" as homophobia.

After all, within the Jewish community...A Jew who hates himself/herself or other Jews isn't labelled as an Anti-Semite, rather as a "self-hating Jew".

^The above is just for the purpose of an example.

Personally, this internal homophobia is worse than the external type we see from straight people and other groups.

But the problem is, it isn't the person's fault.

As much as we'd like to condemn the people who say, "I'd rather be straight." It isn't their fault that they want to be.

Our society looks down upon being gay. Uses words like "immoral", "abnormal", "disguisting", and onwards and so forth to describe our lifestyle.

If you were a young gay man, and you grew up hearing these words 100 times a day about homosexuals, you'd feel pretty bad about yourself as well.

In my humble opinion, homosexuality is harder today than it was in the past. Back in the day, from my understanding, homosexuality was a "non-issue".

A topic that casually stayed in the shadows and every just sort of looked the other way on.

In today's society, it's a front line battlefield.

Same-sex marriage, equal rights and the entire fight have brought homosexuality out of the shadows and right into the center stage spotlight.

It's also brought our enemies out. Making them more furious and more determined.

Which is why there's more of a "negative" attitude out there.

All these young gay men growing up with this general atmosphere of hate and intolerance around them.

No wonder many of them have issues with being gay and why they'd rather be straight.

While this is a problem that needs to be address and solved within the community, it is also a problem that can not be solved unless the entire world community helps put a stop to it.

They don't have sex, they have mutual masturbation.
????? Mutual masturbation isn't having sex????

*ALL* sex with a partner is, at its most fundamental level, mutual masturbation. It's up to the partners to put more or less meaning into it. It could be a way to intimately express attachment and honor for each other - or - it could be "no strings attached" sex - or - it could be a million shades in between. Thus, its beauty.

I've listened to too many hetero guys brag about sex being just for them; their concept obviously being that it is masturbation for them; the one's I'm referring to show no concern whether it's even mutual.

It's not who you fuck (or masturbate with); it's how you engage with the other person.

We could learn from our Bonobo cousins. We'd be a much happier society if we viewed sex as a way to greet, resolve conflicts, and reconcile with one another. :D

Uh, not by a long shot.

Sure, it's more public now. But it can only be public because there is (generally) more acceptance.

The controversy is a good thing. It means people are considering options.

In the past it wasn't talked about because it was generally acknowledged by society that it was a disease that needed to be cured (or the person killed).

Sounds like fun. I'll have to go introduce myself to the new neighbors now!

Please read up on the Stonewall riots that erupted in New York in June 1969 and why gay people were compelled to form the Gay Liberation Front. Also read people like Oscar Wilde, André Gide, James Baldwin, and Brian McNaught. It wasn't a "non-issue." It was (and still is) a facet of ourselves (as humans) that we (collectively) refuse to acknowledge and embrace and honor.

If we're talking about intercourse, then no. Bonobos do not have same-sex intercourse ('sex'). I'm contesting you, I'm highlighting and playing devil's advocate for a faulty argument.

And for others, well, if you hate other people and don't want to be associated with them enough to dislike yourself, so be it. Regardless of whether or not the association would be wrong, regardless of whether or not youw ould have an oppurtunity to present what being gay is in a different and borader light to these people, regardless of the fact that you're actually int he right ::shrug:: So much for just being your own person.:##:

Hey, luminum, life's waaaaaaaaay too short to get into a pissing contest with a fellow JUBer! Best wishes!!

And the best way that can be accomplished is by demonstrating how many of us don't want to be ourselves because we bought into the promises of a straight life and how all of that is unobtainable when we're gay.

I love myself and who I am, but life would be better being straight. I want to have children some day, and to have the opportunity to have the want to with a wife and start a family sure beats alternative means and adoption. The whole acceptance from society is also a plus too. ;)

I am in a long term loving relationship with another person of the same sex. I would be a hypocrite of the worst sort to betray the love of my partner and wish I were straight. Oh sure, life might be "easier" as a straight man, but only from the standpoint of societal acceptance. I would never trade the acceptance of others for the love of my partner. As the great Oscar Wilde once said:

"The only thing worse than being talked about is not being talked about."

I guess the majority of black people were forced to be brave, except for the the ones who passed and did. For those that still didn't, they have my eternal respect.

I didn't say that homosexuality wasn't an issue back in the day.

The Stonewall Riots helped bring the community out of the proverbial shadows that were cast in for so long, and finally got the ball moving on civil/equal rights for homosexuals.

But, you can't deny that homosexuality is more of an "open" issue today.

The funny thing is, the critics of homosexuality say that the media and entertainment are exposing our children to this lifestyle....

Yet they contribute some of the most of opening up homosexuality to the public, be it from a very skewed view, but it still brings the issue to a head.

The more they fight, the more people will be informed and realize that our opponents are feeding the public a bunch of crap.
