  • Hi Guest - Did you know?
Hot Topics is a Safe for Work (SFW) forum.

I think we found Baby Jane . . .

I bet Pamela and Kitty committed the odd fashion fail.

Someone should market that very dress, but pre-ripped.

I have a hunch the raped-by-bikers-on-the-way-to-the-prom look is going to be very hot this year.

I'm not a big fan of pedantic thread titles.

The reporter LOOKS like she's wearing a toddler's precious outfit, hence the Baby Jane snark.

In the same post, I mentioned it was about time we had another fashion fails thread, i.e., this thread.

I think Unloadonme got it and posted in the same vein right away.

^ Not a fan. You appear to be still using thread topics as a premise for posting bait.

Felix Salmon (yes, I think that is a real name) is Axios' Chief Financial Correspondent. He's out stumping for his new book, "The Phoenix Economy."

His interview with Margaret Hoover on this week''s Firing Line is a worthwhile watch, but his fashion fail is odd. A financial authority who's a credible economist doesn't rsik distracting his message by appearing only in paisley shirts and purple suits. Whereas he doesn't have to wear a suit and tie, he is better off not appearling clowish:

The suit is more purple than the still photo conveys, and the pointless buttonhole as accent appears again on the coats' cuff, possibly only on one arm. Sorry, but fashion isn't a random serger at your disposal. It has a The Riddler quality about it.

The paisley isn't the worst thing that ever happened, but in a business setting, has the effect of wearring a cotton print apron or house dress in a Monty Python skit. Don't do it.

Is this fashion fail acceptable?

I still think choosing a political figure, or a figure central to culture wars, is using the fashion premise as an excuse to drag politics around the forum that isn't the political one.

Russo's controversy isn't really a scandal on this side of the Pacific.

Her outfit isn't appealing to me, but not so much about a tunic that is Jimminy Cricketesque and a short coat, but the glasses. When a figure who's famous uses garish glasses, it has the Liberace/Elton John/Sally Jessy Raphael effect, i.e., to look like overcompensation for decline.

It's one thing for someone to wear frames or lenses with a bit of color to be making a statement. It's quite another to wear accoutrements that might easily be part of a supervillain's costume in a comic book. Desperate much?

Daniel Craig. (He's that double glazing salesman who pretends to be James Bond, in case you're not sure.) I don't know how this man got a reputation as a sharp dresser. Even at the best of times he looks like he's wearing someone else's clothes.

That jacket reminds me of Mrs Overall's coat in Acorn Antiques.

Mrs Overall has infinitely more character and pizazz!

Bait is a transitive verb. 'Bait' for whom?

My dictionary says a serger is the same as an interlocker/sewing machine.
My grandmother was an avid seamstress. A serger is used to sew buttonholes, although not only buttonholes.

Bait is also a noun and needs no explanation for Pat Grimshaw.

But Sarina Russo comes from the land of Dame Edna Everage (of blessed memory). Eyeglass standards are different there.

There are some sights on the red carpet at the Oscars. It's as if they go out of their way to look as ridiculous as possible.

If you're a man trying to make your face both feminen and amusing at the same time, then you have my blessings. However, Ms. Russo is neither of those things.

For civilians, it's a matter of taste, and that isn't a regional distinction when it comes to upstaging your face. The same holds true of men's ties when attired for business. No loud tie is really acceptable.

When my team was hosting a Critical Design Review with our prime customer, and with their US Government customer, my program manager let the scheduler wear a necktie covered in cartoon characters. She did so after he explained away that he had been given it after donating to a child's cancer fund or similar. She was nearing retirement at that point and had lost her professionalism in that moment. It was a strategic mistake, all the more because the scheduler lacked expertise and our schedule was in jeopardy and the customer knew it.

Why fuel the fire with adding a constant reminder that we were not taking the work seriously enough?

I am not qualified to judge "Fashion Fails".

Because I prefer tracky-dacks, footy shorts and thongs.

Fashion is by its nature ephemeral, unfunctional, faddish and very silly.
