I want to do something against evangelism. But I have no idea what I can do. Any suggestions?

Sorry about this post but I'm really pissed off at them....

Shag their sons.

That's always a good way to do a good deed while pissing people off AND gettin' a little action.

Well, Soil's advice certainly has it's benefits! ;)

But seriously, you want to combat evangelism? Be yourself. Be proud of who you are and live your life without fear. They can't change who you are and they should not impact how you live your life. Right now that's the thing that drives them up the wall, that we don't live in fear of them and their hate.

Mine is more fun.

but GL is right.

the reason that people become Christians is a desperation to control other people in every facet of their lives.

And if you REALLY wanna piss them off, just don't allow them any power over you.

(and then shag their sons)

That I already do. I wanna do something more.

Two things.

Evangelism/Religious Fundamentalism happens for two reasons.

1) It is taught and thus the next generation just reguriates what they are taught. Introducing new thoughts not in a hostile way causes doubt, which causes people to revaluate their lives.

2) They become a convert to Evangelism/Religious Fundamentalism. People who do so because there is part of the dogma that resonates with them, there is a part of there psyche that craves something in Religious Fundamentalism. Calming reasons why some people cling to religious fundamentalism: Feelings of insignificance, fear of death, needing to feel love for you doubt your capacity to feel love, needing a purpose in life. You aren't going to cause people to change from their relgious fundamentalism until you there fear is at a mangeable level for them to confront it and deal with it. People who become religious fundamentalist do so for they need religion as a drug/crutch, they need it so they can deal with the uncerntantiy.

Now what I said in number 2 doesn't neccessary apply to all religious people, it only applies to people who become religious fundamentalist. Healthy religion, is based on faith and with faith there is still doubt, religious fundamentalism removes doubt from the equation.

promote free thought

question authority

dont fear tradition

I'm sorry but again I don't condone this kind of behavior[-X The question is, why do you want to harm evangelicals? I personally don't have a problem with christians as a matter of fact I agree with most of their teachings and their way of life. ..|.... :grrr: Always remember violence is never the way to solve anything

He didn't mention anything about harming or violence - he said he wishes to do something to stop - Evangelism: (derivative) 'Convert or try to convert someone to Christianity'

Perhaps the not just the negativity he wishes to protest against, but often the 'hatred' that the pseudo-'evangelists' are propagating.

Talk about a typical Christian knee-jerk response!

I gotta be honest I agree with them in that respect:=D: most gay people live a deplorable lifestyle and I think it makes us all look bad. I not claiming to be a total saint but I am proud to say that I'm still a virgin and someday hope to share my life with someone special. (*8*) I don't expect this post to exist long. It seems every time I make comments like this my posts end up being deleted. I guess the owners of these forums don't like hearing the truth.

Or maybe they don't like people who are holier than thou, being extremely judgmental and stereotyping the all gay people, but it can't be your fault it's the forum owners.

I must beg to differ with you Soilwork. I am a Christian; and I did not become a Christian for any of the reasons that you mention. None of my friends are Christians for those reasons, either. You have brazenly generalized from some Christians to the entire group. That would be rather like a straight person saying that all gays are feminine. There are many deeply committed Christians who are open-minded and who have no desire to harm others, including gays, just as there are many practicing Muslims who have no interest whatsoever in harming non-Muslims. Insofar as anyone on this JUB board draws a multitude of distinctions regarding gays, which is quite right since gays are a quite heterogeneous group, Christians deserve a like respect--and for precisely the same reason. There is no one kind of Christian. Certainly, the so-called religious right Christians of the United States do not even come close to representing Christians all over the world. Taking them as representative of Christianity is rather like inferring from drag-queens that all gays are like that. Not so. Decency and magnanimity requires that we see differences where they are as oppposed to only acknowledging those that fit our political ideology.

Yes what Soilwork said doesn't apply to all christians, but it does apply to the evangelical convert christians we are talking about. Thus what Soilwork said is correct.

Fair enough. But you will note that Soilwork was not that precise in his remarks. He did not say evangelicals. Rather, he spoke about "people who become Christians". Had he limited his remarks to evangelicals, I would have had no reason to write what I wrote. I wrote what I wrote because I read what he wrote. And what he wrote was a brazen and unwarranted generalization.

I'm afraid it is not enough just to shag their sons, we must find lesbians to shag their daughters too![-X

Because evangelicals adhere to the Bible as their only source of divine revelation, it is important in refuting their claims to know the Bible well. Read it. Study it. Expect to be savaged at first because evangelical propaganda is voluminous and its presentation often highly polished.

There are gaping chinks in evangelical armor, however. For example, even those who accept the creation account in Genesis as a literal event are hard-pressed to say how we know for certain what was done or said so long ago because no human being was present to record what happened. Moses, the purported author of Genesis, was not there, and the OT nowhere says that God dictated an account of the creation to him later. If Genesis is not a literal account of the creation of the world and of mankind, then the present-day doctrine of "original sin' is suspect. No original sin, no need for a redeemer. The evangelical house of cards comes crashing down.

With each encounter with an evangelical, you'll become a stronger debater. Above all, never allow him or her to have the final word, even if you mumble and stumble at first.

Good luck!

Although I am a gay liberal Christian, I have nothing against Evangelicals per se. Remember that Jimmy Carter is an Evangelical (in the best sense) and he has no anti-gay agenda.

The best way to combat anti-gay feeling among Evangelicals is for gay Evangelicals to come out so their fellow Christians can see that they do not have horns.
