I got home yesterday after an 18 hour day of work to discover my house was broken into. Thank god they did not take anything but they sure made a mess. I just wanted to go to bed when I got home but I had to wait for the police to get here to file a report. The police figure they had the wrong house because they were definatly looking for something. They emptied out all my cupboards and just threw stuff everywhere. They even left my freezer door open. So for the next two days which are my weekend I have a lot of cleaning up to do.

This is the first time anything like this has happened to me and let me tell you it is not a good feeling.

Oh, God, that sucks, Elwood.

My apartment was robbed when I was in grad school. They took the only things I had of any value (which wasn't much: an SLR camera and stereo equipment). I went from broke to destitute in a heartbeat.

You feel so violated when it happens.

Glad you at least still have everything. Good luck.

Been there, done that.

Had car broken into. then held at gunpoint this past july.

It really sucks; I'm sorry buddy.

What kind of moron would break into a house and not steal anything? Sheesh! What's this world coming to?

The same happened to me few months ago. Police came and quote they just could not investigate because it was supposed to be all my fault. My neibors from upstairs were also visited. Since it happened after my owner decided to install some form of protection, I don't know how it is called in english but it is a digital key, police acted as if nothing had happened. My case was not worht for stats. Anyhow it was shoching, the mess, the frustation I ressented and the anger

](*,) ](*,)

I had the same thing happen to me many years ago - two very special rings I had bought in London were taken, and one of them and had a special inscription in it.

You come away from the experience feeling so violated - it just took weeks for it to ware off.

They caught the two young boys who were breaking in to people's home and the police said I could come to the place where stolen goods are recovered and are on display to claim, but I just did not want to go and look for something I truly felt would not be there.

eM.:(

That's bad news, Elwood. I hope you'll be able to put the experience behind you soon!

I am really sorry to hear that. I am glad nothing was taken and you are safe though.

That sucks....I know how you feel. When I was living in Boston my house got broken into. It sucked....I couldn't sleep for days. I decided to get an alarm and then felt more comfortable...The only thing in my situation is that they actually did steal...Do you have an alarm system hooked up?

I had an alarm put in, but somebody broke in and stole it.

Hi Guys I am an alarm engineer in the uk and in my experience just the fact that you have an alarm box on the building is a deterent even if it is just a dummy. Theives always go for the easy option ie a home with no visible form of alarm. Even if you have an alarm that will call the police, they won't get there until it is too late, that is if they respond at all. Last week we had theives break into a building that was protected by cctv and they stole the recorder, so removing the evidence. The key is to make your property LOOK protected. No need to go overboard with alarms, just make it look as if something will go off and they will try somewhere else.

NOW you tell us! Hey, while you're at it - why not bolt the door now the horse has jolted?

Fucking Hell!

My parents back in the early 80's had their house broken into, they stole their stereo and stuff it really sucked. Sorry to hear about it happening to you, thankfully they took nothing.

Thanks guys for your nice thoughts. I am a little freaked out, because they didn't steal anything so it makes me wonder what they were looking for?? At least the did not steal my new 8" dildo LOL. My kids were supposed to stay here tonight but I am bringing them back to there mothers house ! Tomorrow I will fix the windows they broke to get in.

Elwood, I'm soooo sorry dude... I was looking for my belt. Did you find it?

Seriously though, I'm sorry about that, but I'm glad nothing of value to you was stolen and you are unharmed. Much love bro,

- DMC

Elwood, I'm so sorry to hear of your bad news. I know exactly how you feel. Even when nothing is taken, you still feel violated; aside from cleaning up the mess. When my house was broken into years ago, it was a mess. I lived on a large lot that backed up to a sudivison and the teenagers used my yard to cut through to get to the stores nearby. I came home and found my place a mess, the liquor consumed and my bed used for sex! Talk about feeling violated!
Whether you get an alarm or not, at least get the signs and other appearances to detract the amateurs from having any interest.

Shame is Nonimus that is exactly what I am asked to do all the time. "we've been burgled can you come and fit an alarm?" Another not too secret irony, "how do you know if a cctv camera is real? If it has a flashing light on it it is a fake.

I was robbed in July. It's a scary feeling knowing a stranger was in your house, it made it difficult to sleep the first couple nights. A couple years ago I had an alarm installed in my car, it was stolen. (yes the alarm, not the car)
