The other major forum site for gays, especially of color, has SEVERAL problems

1 shady donation process, why is the administration's account set up in the cayman islands? they avoidin taxes or some shit?

2 CONSTANT browsing problems, the forums not loading, quotes not loading properly, when i say constant i mean at least once a month sometimes more. It took them three years to develop a functional quote process which, if im not mistaken, is suppposed to be a staple of any forum.

3 extremely homophobic environment, obviously attributed to black men's complex history of sexuality, sexual identity and masculinity and the church being the mecca of black culture. You think the self-loathers are bad here? Go there and make a thread denouncing gay culture, it will go on for 20 pages of cosignatures, those guys REALLY hate themselves and each other. Passionately. seriously if anti-gay hetero conservatives saw what gets posted there theyd be like "woah chill out gays arent THAT bad."

4 the inconsistent application of the rules and ToS is far worse than it is here

Theres probably more but ive lost steam.

Anywho i love you filthy whores jub is mah home.

Its a forum site for gays .. and has homophobic environment?? doesn't make sense, sounds like a place to avoid.

Thge other gay forums I'm on are ok .. but I still spend the most time on JUB

Yup. I explained why, its a predominantly black site and most of the members grew up in (pseudo) baptist households and neighborhoods where "faggot" was as commonly used as "bitch" and an N word that would get me another infraction. Their environments and upbringing has left them sexually stifled and they blame it on their sexuality.

You should see the relationship advice threads. The common response is "hes probably cheating" "it wont work anyway" "gays cant commit" EXTREME cynicism and doubt. Other men are pretty much viewed as living cum depositories, no more no less.

I used to post to a forum for "straight-acting" gay men (not that I identify as such), and I found a lot of homophobia there too. Anyone who didn't fit their narrow definition of masculinity was automatically an object of scorn. (Oddly enough, one of their mods was a drag queen.)

I really don't understand the whole self-loathing thing.

Regardless, it's always a pleasure to have you Karen

I guess I've lucked out in my choice of sites then. JUB has its issues, of course, but it's generally a fun and positive place. Empty Closets is more inclusive - it has a younger slant, and has lesbians and trans members as well. But despite that, it's usually a pleasant and positive place. It of course doesn't have the horniness and sex factor that JUB does, but it makes up for it by being (believe it or not) more mature. :) I also occasionally spend time at outsports, which is a forum for gay sports fans. Not as active, but again, pretty pleasant.

And yes, nice to see you, Karen. :)

Ugh, I swear, my race is a damn shame.

Not a shock about self-loathing in gays that come from strong religious backgrounds. Pretty much drilled into your head from an early age that being god is a sin to god, gays are destructive etc.
When you that over and over again, you start to believe it. Sad to see in so many cases.

I've got a list of probably a half-dozen gay forums I've signed up for over the years .. a few are all but dead getting very few posts so I'm hardly ever there. (plus there's been others that've shut down/disappeared alltogether)

JUB is the most active so I spend the most time here
GaySpeak is one i found before JUB.. not a bad place, but not quite as active (& also has some functionality issues)
The EmptyClosets one Lex mentioned seems ok

Wow sounds like they've got some serious self-esteem issues or something like that, but from what you said it would make sense

Nothing like the neighborhoods you mention there but some of my neighbors commonly use that 'n' word when referring to blacks or the 'f' word referring to gays. Couldn't say how many gay or black "jokes" I've had to fake a laugh at :(

Everything that Lex said :D (except that I haven't checked OutSports yet ;)).

It always amazes me that EC, with a demographic that is probably predominantly 13-25, is so much more tolerant, respectful and supportive - and, yes, in a lot of ways more mature than JUB - but I think it is likely because it is so much more inclusive. It was started by Seth/Bryce and JD (former owners here) as a place for young guys who were banned from JUB for being underage. Very quickly we started getting people posting from all facets of the LGBT spectrum - and had to adapt to include them.

The result is that EC is now probably just about the best Forum for anyone, of any age, wanting to deal with issues involving struggling with their sexuality - be they young, old, male, female, intersex, pansexual, asexual, curious, questioning, married single or whatever. I think the inclusivity breeds understanding, tolerance and respect - it really is a wonderful resource and I am proud to have been a part of it from the early days.

Oh - and I should add that Lex is one of the iconic characters there - always dispensing his brand of commonsense and usually 'right on the money' advice (but that shouldn't surprise anyone here, right?).

Oh - and of course - KW (and all the other prior names) (*8*) & to you for actually starting this. :gogirl:
