They survived Obama. Should it come to pass, you'll survive Romney. As a wise gargoyle once said, the main difference between the Republicans and Democrats is that the Republicans don't bother pretending to give a damn about you.

No, I wasn't really kidding.

This is the first Presidential election, POST-Citizens United. This presents an entirely different political UNIVERSE.

It is also inevitable that a "liberal" Justice (O'Connor) WILL retire in the next four years. If Romney is in, I fully expect that he will appoint Rick Santorum to fill the vacancy. I don't think we've heard the last of that guy.

The combination of this and Citizens United would, for generations to come, guarantee that the Republican Party locks up all aspects of political life and discourse and, ignoring the Constitution as they do, dissent itself may even possibly become illegal and punishable by death. They HATE free speech, unless it's generated out of billions of dollars.

The Democrats care about at least some aspects of me. Under Democrats, chances are excellent that, someday, I will actually be allowed to marry a *MAN* anywhere in the United States that I choose, and have it recognized federally in all respects.

It is NOT going to be the Republican-leaning Justices on the Supreme Court that will strike down DOMA, if it is indeed struck down.
