I wish we lived in Roman times

and also non-free people are enslaved and treated with little regard.

pros and cons. but sex aside, it's not a place that is 'democratic and safe' as today.

people may disagree with me, but it is what it is/

no, some of us don't want to have families at all, or if we did, not with a woman.

roman times would be ideal if you're wealthy and closeted

As a rich white man, it would be GREAT for me. Just sayin...

Sucks for most people, though.

Thats not quite true, life under the Pax Romano was very good for most people, in some way better than today,

If you were gay no one carried, most of the Roman Army was gay!! it was encouraged as it help bond them together.

Women are for families and men are for fun. :D

That's what men have very rightly done all history long till some fool thought marriage needed to be romantic. Marriage is ONLY a legal contract, nothing more. Marriage excludes love and romance per defintion.

The biggest building in Rome was the baths of Caracalla very much dedicated to M2M meeting in all its forms and between all social strata. Cock in paradise.

It would be nice for a few hours worth of a visit, but i'm more happy with today.

meh, that's the way it seems to be where I live. All the married guys seem to be on Manhunt looking to hook up with guys.

All guys I sex with, are married. Never mind. ONLY SAFE.

I thought it were the Greeks, not the Romans, that were gay-friendly?

The Sacred Band Of Thebes in Ancient Greece was pretty awesome, too. Homosexuality/bisexuality was generally tolerated more in Greece's culture at the time. . .where it was odd if a teenaged boy and a man didn't have a mentor relationship.

In Rome, male relationships were a class thing: older, accomplished soldiers would have sex with the fresh-faced soldiers; the wealthy would have sex with their male slaves, etc.

I'd say that the current definition of "gay" would be as foreign to them as the current concept of "romantic marriage" among straights.

Tolerant of homosexual behavior, yes, but not some gay paradise.

did gay people even exist in roman times?

Exactly. The ancient definition of homosexual isn't the same as the contemporary definition of "gay." Greeks/Romans still thought of effeminate men and/or "bottoms" as a lower class of people, mostly due to their misogyny.

The biggest sin EVER in those cultures was for a man to be or act effeminate. These men were publically humiliated, or even killed. It's actually somewhat similar to how high school students call each other "fag" all the time whenever someone doesn't act "manly" enough.
