Cult 1980s television series "Dallas" is to return to the small screen, with 79-year-old US actor Larry Hagman joining fellow veterans in bringing notoriously shot J.R. back to life.

Seventy-year-old Linda Gray, who played Sue Ellen in the original series, will also reprise her role, while Patrick Duffy, 62, will play Bobby Ewing, said TV channel TNT.

"It is incredibly exciting to see both new and familiar characters in the hands of a dream cast," said Michael Wright, head of programming for TNT, TBS and Turner Classic Movies (TCM).

"Dallas" was one of the most successful and longest-running shows in US prime-time television history, and was also hugely successful across the world. The blockbuster nighttime soap opera aired from 1978 to 1991.

OMG! I just watched the promo tonight! It looks awesome! And Josh Henderson who is playing John Ross is gorgeous!

I'm glad to see that they are not going to have other actors play JR, Bobby and Sue Ellen.

It will be a blend of classic and new.....(the new cast looks great!)

I thought Sue Ellen looked GREAT in the promos!

while Patrick Duffy, 62, will play Bobby Ewing

But.... But.... he died and, and, and they buried him and, and, and Pam got on with her life....

I saw it! I mean, what do you think I did, dream all of that up or something?

Pam dreamt away a 1-year season.

Dick (Bob Newhart) Loudon dreamt away an 8-year-long series. (Best Series Ending E-VER!!)

Has anyone seen the premiere date?

All the promos I've seen just say this summer.

Jesse Metcalfe as Christopher Ewiing (Bobby & Pam's son) and Josh Henderson as John Ross (JR and Sue Ellen's son) was inspired casting.

Both guys are hotter than fuck, and from what I've seen, both can act....

Check out the preview...

Now all they need is vampires, and it will be a sure hit with today's market.

Probably atleast give it a glance, for Jesse & Josh of course, but what's blowing my mind is hearing that Larry Hagman is still alive!!! Could've sworn he'd passed on a few years back. I'll be damned.

Had such a fucking HATE-ON for this show growing up. We only had the one tv, so I'd end up getting stuck watching Dallas, Falcon Crest & shit like that. I DID love those Dynasty catfights though..|

It's funny.....I burned out on "Dallas" after year five. And I didn't watch the rest of the series until the last few episodes. But I am looking forward to its return.....

I did watch the TV movies, and gained a new appreciation for the show. After all, I am a soap opera lover.

I am looking forward to the possibilities here. Chris and John Ross bring new elements into JR and Bobby's classic struggle. Chris is Bobby and Pam's son. Where is Pam? I am sure they will explain why Bobby is now married to another woman, Ann. Have JR and Sue Ellen mellowed over the years, and work as a team for their son, even if they no longer are together? Does John Ross buy into JR's belief that Christopher is not a "real Ewing" because his mother was Pamela Barnes? Where is Cliff Barnes? Where is illegitimate Ewing son Ray Krebs? Did JR chase him away? Where is Lucy? And whatever happened to Gary Ewing (is he still banished in Knots Landing, California) ? And what about the two beautiful girls that play Chris and John Ross's girlfriends. What influence will they have? There are a lot of story possibilities here.....

I never watched the show, so I don't really know the characters:

Left to Right.....
Ken Kercheval (Cliff Barnes, archenemy of the Ewing clan)
Steve Kanaley (Ray Krebs, Jock Ewing's illegitimate son)
Susan Howard (Donna Krebs, his wife)
Charlene Tilton (Lucy Ewing, Bobby and JR's niece, Gary's daughter)
Linda Gray (Sue Ellen Ewing, on-again off-again wife of JR Ewing)
Larry Hagman (JR Ewing, cad extraordinaire)

I think think that the lady in the red dress is Cathy Podewell, (Cally Ewing, one of JR's wives between marriages with Sue Ellen)

Patrick Duffy (Bobby Ewing, the "good" Ewing son)

I think that the lady in the gray dress on the end is Sheree J. Wilson (April Ewing, one of Bobby's post-Pam wives)

Correct on all counts!

Knight Rider as a remake was a total turkey but we're loving Hawaii Five-0 so not sure how we feel about another re-do/update. The pilot will prob decide it for us.
Airdate?
