I got 3 degrees and my student debt is no where near 6 figures. I worked my way through college and bought a car straight out of high school to go to college.

Live within your means has always been good advice, and I heartily endorse that outlook to everyone.

These folks in the story in the OP are deferring the payment of the loans thus incurring interest on that loan, so this hill of debt is growing into a mountain of debt.

Well, unhealthy lifestyle is about mental issues and debt (borrowing money out of control) is also about mental issues.
