For one of my courses this semester, I'll write a Firefox extensions. It is only voluntary, but I think it is a cool idea, and I could do something useful with it as well.

But I don't have many ideas yet. Anyone knows something small that would be a good thing to have in Firefox? It can be virtually anything, but I'd prefer to do something not THAT big ;)

One idea I have atm, is to make something small where you can reload a website without sending a referer - so you could for example eliminate the well known yellow frog :) This could be extended to send your own referer to some sites as well. Maybe even database like. IMG from imageshack - send imageshack referer - and so on :)
But i guess there are probably better ideas out there ..

of course most things might be already done in one way or another :) or like the you mentioned part of a bigger extension. but if you don*t want pref bar but the remove the referer you could use mine :)
basically it is just a small XML practise, so if i will have to reinvent the wheel i don't mind. i'm just looking for good ideas so that i have some kind of motivation for me to do it :)

Corny, there are just so many extensions for FF now, the daunting part will be to find something that hasn't been done five times already!

Perhaps you should be thinking of a more specialised use, rather than mass appeal.

Sorry - that's all I've got. Everything I thought of is already there on the list.

Good luck...|

you could do something that automatically installs Linux. ;)

no seriously, sorry i'm not an extensions person so i don't really have any idea. i was just trying to be funny.

Hmmmmm...I'd like to see something with Google Bookmarks. Something that integrates it nicely into Firefox.

I know, this is kinda vague, but I can't think of anything else. Everything has been done already.

I like T-Rexx's idea better though.

Maybe somebody knows... is there an extension that allows you to see a thumbnail view of what's on each tab?

I'm not very creative and certainly don't know much about computer programming and stuff, but I saw this link in the firefox help forum and figured I'd paste it here, maybe it helps I dunno.

looks like a good time-saver!

t-rexx idea sounds good as well, but hm - well maybe you have an old version or so? because the current one already does have a small symbol to show you if your current site is safe - whether you go there via google or not.

ah .. i see the point!
i believe this would be possible :)
i don't think re-writing would be a good idea, at least we should write a new one. but i could try if i can see how the mcaffee plugin queries their database, and use the database to show a symbol/mouseover or so next to links :)

How about an extension that tells you when someone has replied to a "subscribed thread" on JUB (or any other forum, for that matter)?

I'm not sure that's possible, but it would be sweet!

that's not possible at least not easily :)
however you can enable the board to e-mail you when someone replied to a subscribed thread (just look around in my settings)

@t-rexx:
i already decided what i will do :)

how about a plugin or extension that by making one click in a button all images gets blocked on the site I'm visiting, so only the text is visible?, I saw that feature in Opera browser, but dont find it in firefox.

rightlick on any images -> block images from domainname.tld

right with that option you block one image from an especific domain, but what about all the current images displayed on the site you are visiting.

edit -> preferences -> content, untick "load images automatically"
