  • Hi Guest - Did you know?
Hot Topics is a Safe for Work (SFW) forum.

If $50 would get you a whole new skill....

Mm, there's plenty of material with carefully chosen words. Depending on what he wanted to read ignoring the 'superfluous words' might not be possible.

Even in good novels there aren't many superfluous ones, something I;ve learned by trying to scan through what looks unimportant, only to find myself totally lost a few pages later.

I already speed read; I've been doing it for the past 40+ years. But I want to super-speed read, with the only limit being how fast I can physically turn the pages. :D

Like Data on Star Trek!

Yeah, I don't think that's a real one... unfortunately. Although there are people who read by whole lines, one line as fast as most of us read one word. I've managed that on rare occasion when there were no 'serious' words, but never with anything important. :(

Though I met a guy in college who could scan a page and be able to recall it later -- in mid-level physics, of all things! Since it was a spring term course, he'd scan a section of the text, then go lay out in the sun, close his eyes, and "read" it.
Some people thought he was a jerk just because he didn't have to sit staring at the text, but some people are idiots.

Every time I try to write something I realize that I really am a poor speller and need help with spelling, but I would hate to waste this $50 on spelling alone.

What if it covered three languages?

Now, there's an approach: first pay $50 each for a few languages you want to speak and read, then pay $50 to be able to spell every single word in every one of them correctly!
