If this gene could be found before birth,
1. Would pro life religious right folks take a second look at abortion?
2. Would liberal gay pro choice guys change their opinion about the right to choose?

Assuming there is such a gene....todate, there is nothing credible provided by research to confirm the existence of such a gene.

Those who reject abortion whether on religious grounds, or not will argue that killing an innocent human life is wrong....nevertheless, it is noteworthy that in India many female foetuses are being aborted simply because they are female...thus, your question is valid and worth discussing.

This is really the eugenics question. I think that many of the religious right would not change their stance as they would still see abortion as murder. However, some conservatives in general might using the justification of preventing a 'birth defect' is justifiable. Many of the left would likely change their stance on abortion on demand and be willing to embrace some reasonable limitation on abortions without a justifiable medical need.

I think not in both cases. There would be some shifting at the margins but for the most part I think the fundamental position of the respective groups would not change.

I feel that this is my position on the subject as well.

What it would mean is that no one would need to "come out" as their homosexuality would be known at birth. Sorry slightly facetious as this is not necessarily true.

Well that was the optimistic point of view. Obviously there could also be a ground swell of women from certain religions claiming immediate abortions 'en masse'.

In my opinion opposing positions on abortion would not be changed by the prospect of a gay gene being discovered....

...nevertheless, the OPs questions raise an important discussion point that abortion is being considered as a means of "improving the human species".... a programme that the Nazis experimented with to breed a super race....Aryan...heterosexual...unblemished....just imagine the prospect of aborting children who are identified in the mother's womb with Asperger's Syndrome, or other Autism related conditions....you can well imagine where this discussion could take us....with abortion as the "correction" tool..... with India also demonstrating that female children much less acceptable, than males......just imagine an India with insufficient females to cater to the sexual needs of males...

If a gay gene was engineered into a rhinovirus and you dropped a test tube in the doorway of the lab, would you report it or just sweep up the glass?
