I think Elvis had charisma in person that we don't get in film. I've never been attracted to him, but I heard that from people who heard him and met him before he because famous. He was from my neck of the woods. There are lots of Southern guys who are full of beans like him and project that in a sort of confidence that doesn't come across as broad and comic as it does on the films of him after he became a cult figure.
