  • Hi Guest - Did you know?
Hot Topics is a Safe for Work (SFW) forum.

if prison is free, why basic healthy isn't free ?

^ oh sorry,

it should say:
"why basic health care isn't free"

but prison isn't free. taxpayers pay for that shit.

Prison shouldn't be free. They should seize all a prisoner's assets. If there is anything left over if/when they are released, then give them a refund. Every prisoner should have some kind of job to do. If they're too crazy or violent to work, those people should be at the head of the line for execution.

So by your logic we should stop paying towards the prison system (which we all do if we've ever paid tax) let the lot of them loose and therefore we'll have more money to spend on the health system so people won't have to pay for it anymore?

Most jurisdictions have some sort of variation on legislation permitting the State to seize and retain proceeds and profits of crimes. Example: Proceeds of Crime Act 2002 (UK)

Because apparently it's a human right to be healthy. It's apparently inhumane to let people in gaol go without healthcare.

Prison isn't free. It's, in fact very expensive to incarcerate somebody. Part of that cost is the health care that the state provides during that incarceration.

The concept of incarceration is that you are civilly dead. You have limited rights. You are a ward of the state. As such they feed, clothe and house you.

So, the entire premise that incarceration and the health care (such as it may be) that goes with it is also free, is fatally flawed.

I think he means if prison is free - the prisoners don't have to pay to go to gaol - then why isn't basic healthcare free as well - Sick people have to pay to get better - and I'm guessing Telstra is aiming his question at the US Government fighting over Healthcare Reform and how that now looks like being scuttled due to the Republican win today in the election for Ted Kennedy's seat.

God I must have been here too long if Telstras mind-leaps are starting to make any form of sense.

you are absolutely correct !!!..|

Wish i could write better. :)

Your posts aren't that hard to understand Telly. Some of the leaps your mind makes are quite interesting. All we have to remember is that you move straight from point A to point D and ignore the middle bit. ;)

lol, point A to point D ?

i want an instant solution !!!

Because a prison is not an asylum (where you pay it directly to enter) or an experimental camp (where you are paid to enter). Easy as cream pie.

Because Americans have been trained to think government = bad, free enterprise = good. No matter what. Despite the fact that people almost universally hate their cell phone company, hate any "customer service" (Indian call centers anyone?) provided by private companies, and hate how the record companies and cable companies have monopolies and screw over their customers. Oh, but we are told that private enterprise is always good. *sigh*

The thing is, each has its place. We don't want private entities running our water supply and we really don't want for-profit insurance.

But some people are too stupid or set in their ways to see that health care should be free.

Nobody should go bankrupt trying to be healthy.

Please don't equate anything healthy or useful with McDonald's. :)

I was thinking mass production of cheap doctors :)

All they need is basic health skills, not that hard, all the nurses already got the skills.
