If the US Supreme Court rules Obama ineligible

^^ QFT.

How would it play out? I'm assuming Biden would simply take over, as the president would be found "unable to fulfill his duties". In the meantime, there'd be a clamor for a "redo" of the election, the Republicans would put Palin at the top of the ticket, and she'd presumably win.

yeah you're right

but if obama (anyone) isnt constitutional eligible to hold the office of president then it doesnt matter what the 'world' thinks, right?

Um...don't be so sure of that.

meaning? please expand on that

thx

Jy_Star pretty much said what I wanted to stay before I did. It's WAY too suspicious that is comes up NOW, after he already won the election. PLUS, the repercussions in terms of political, social and cultural relationships with the rest of world... these relationships would be damaged close to beyond repair.

damn, as silly as this topic is it is very interesting from a debating point of view.

it would put the USA in a constitutional crisis. if the SC ruled obama ineligible 'who' would enforce their decision?

You mean "who" in the US?

Let's say for argument's sake that Barack Obama WAS born overseas (not including Hawaii). Title 8 of the U.S. Code fills in that gap.

Section 1401 defines the following as people who are "citizens of the United States at birth":

Anyone born inside the United States
Any Indian or Eskimo born in the United States, provided being a citizen of the U.S. does not impair the person's status as a citizen of the tribe
Any one born outside the United States, both of whose parents are citizens of the U.S., as long as one parent has lived in the U.S.
Any one born outside the United States, if one parent is a citizen and lived in the U.S. for at least one year and the other parent is a U.S. national
Any one born in a U.S. possession, if one parent is a citizen and lived in the U.S. for at least one year
Any one found in the U.S. under the age of five, whose parentage cannot be determined, as long as proof of non-citizenship is not provided by age 21
Any one born outside the United States, if one parent is an alien and as long as the other parent is a citizen of the U.S. who lived in the U.S. for at least five years (with military and diplomatic service included in this time)
A final, historical condition: a person born before 5/24/1934 of an alien father and a U.S. citizen mother who has lived in the U.S.
Anyone falling into these categories is considered natural-born, and is eligible to run for President or Vice President.

Because of the section in BOLD, then under the scenario of him not being born in Hawaii, then he is still a US citizen and eligible to run for President.

It makes him a US citizen, but it doesn't make him eligible to run for President. The qualifications for both are different.

It really is a Red Queen's Race, though. The birth certificate was produced. Everybody who saw it said it was legit, and this includes the reddest of the red, from Rush Limbaugh onwards. But hey, if the idea of Obama getting barred from the White House provides you with some masturbatory fuel, run with it.

AMEN. What the world thinks of us is terribly important. Bush didn't care what the world thinks and that lead to 8 years (and many more) of possibly irreperable damage to global unity.

Call me crazy but I don't want the people who make my cars, food, and other items I use on a daily basis to be mad at me.

Yep, that would be bad. It could eventually lead to countries around the world start going like "Until you get your shit together, you ain't getting nothing from us...since we can't trust your word or your policies."

This is, of course, one of the different scenarios that would be a result of this.

And why would only natural born people be elegible to be President btw?

So much for the "anyone can be president" creed...

Shouldn't something as important as this have been figured out before the election? I mean, they had plenty of time to check his credentials.

Because it is convenient to SOMEONE.

If this is true how come its not all over the news that Obama might not be a citizen and all the other rumors that is going on?

Mac was born on a US Military base making him a natural born citizen
That's not necessarily true. He claims to have been born on the base, but there is no record of his birth in the base's childbirth book. He could have been born in an outside hospital, thus making him a Panamanian citizen.

Besides, what difference does it make now, anyway? Maybe these crackpots will try and take Joe Biden's vice-presidency to the supreme court next on the grounds that Delaware is too small to be considered a bona fide state.

Sheesh.

If Obama were to be declared ineligible at this point the public would not stand for it. There would probably be rioting in the streets-- Do the neocons really want to bring down the government?

What's the big deal? Obama and Biden both share the same views, so nothing would be different.
