  • Hi Guest - Did you know?
Hot Topics is a Safe for Work (SFW) forum.

If you could travel through time...

I would like to go back and watch many of the major events that happened throughout history. I wouldn't, however, change anything.

i would change this or that after thinking about it very hard and probably have a discussion with a couple of very smart and educated people about it. but i certainly would also go on a big fucking shopping spree ^^

This gives me an idea.

1. Make a list of small items from the Civil War period that will be worth millions as collectibles today.

2. Go back and acquire as many as possible.

3. Deposit in a location where they will remain undisturbed until later this summer.

4. Go on vacation and collect them.

5. Hit up Antiques Roadshow and astound the world.

6. Sell the items and get rich.

There's a Ray Bradbury short story titled "Sound of Thunder" that I've heard dramatized but never read. One of the characters is transported into the past, and because of his actions a dinosaur is killed. When he returns to the present he realizes that the world has subtly changed, and that the result of a presidential election decided before the time travel is now the opposite of what it had been previously.

The event that changed things was that one hunter stepped off the path and crushed a butterfly under his boot. The result is not just a changed electoral result, but cumulative changes before that leading to a militarized, fascist world on their return.

I would have sucked and swallowed every guy that gave the opportunity to me, the foolishness of youth!

I can't help but feel the need to leave the "important" events alone.

I'd probably change aspects of my own life instead; maybe get a different degree, or motivate a younger and somewhat arrogant/cocksure me a bit harder.

Stopped Eve from eating the fruit from The Tree Of Knowledge. Stopping Slavery would be my second choice

I'd use time travel to get rich in the present. You don't even need to change history to do it! How so?
Junk. Seriously. Keep anything long enough and it'll become valuable.
Discarded pottery, ancient out of fashion clothing and jewelry, personal letters tossed into the garbage heap, lost plays and poems and books and writings from history's greats..

So long as you only take things people won't notice missing or stuff that history says was lost or destroyed..you should be golden.

Would go forward to 04.04.247,943,795,349,631,048.09775:003 just to see the event horizon b65.

How do you know your current timeline hasn't very profoundly affected someone, or several someone's life? You could have inspired them to do something great, or to go on one more day and not kill themselves.

You pull one string, and everything else unravels. You could be someone's important event, whether you know it or not.

Nothing as major as some posts,i would like to see me being born. My mum managed at 2.57am to deliver me herself. As for changing anything no.

That had to be a pretty scary event for her - not having anyone there to help her - but the prize that came out - what joy!

Some of these answers are pretty deep. Stopping political assassinations and preventing AIDS?

I'd like to go back to when my parents were teenagers and spy on them, to see if I could get any dirt on them. But I would be armed with the knowledge of 'Back to the Future.'. I don't need my mom falling in love with me.
