If you didnt like rap before, you will now

Yeah, rapper's delight was such an angry song.

Really all those early rap songs about basement parties and dancing, just so immeasurably angry. And if you learn instead of think, you'd know that rap could be traced back to plucky blues songs (catchy hooks repetitive themes rhyme structure) from the early 20th century so maybe don't try to educate black people on their own culture and history?

thank-you-no-thank-you.gif

I prefaced my comment with that quote from you to cover my ass you ornery bitch.

Never liked it. Still don't. Rap is bad poetry written by bad poets who can't write and are bad singers who can't sing.

Seriously, though, I can't get past the language.

That's not what rap is, that's what old white guys who don't know what rap is think rap is. Would've been nice if we could've all just had a laugh at a terrible performance but I forgot how yall practically cum on yourselves at the chance to express your disdain for black art. Lemme just file this under "useless opinions nobody asked for."

Oh well, just gonna have another listen to Kendrick Lamar, excuse me, PULITZER WINNER Kendrick Lamar's "swimming pools." :gogirl: after one more view of this freestyle cuz this shit is HIGH-LARIOUS!!! :rotflmao: high high hiiiiiiigh :rotflmao: the fact that it's so bad people think it's a parody makes it even funnier

Thank you very much. I was afraid I'd go the entire day without being insulted.

No, thank you. I was afraid I'd go the entire day without having my culture insulted. did you even watch the video? i don't listen to japanese pop but a video of some japanese girl butchering a song in a language i don't speak was still funny to me, i was able to enjoy it somehow without letting the room full of asian people know that i don't care for their style of music. that kind of petty passive aggressive behavior is so very beneath me.

to reiterate who exactly is steering the ship-- young black artist to be marketed to black youth, look who he's auditioning for. the a&r reps, managers, accountants, lawyers, publicists, financeers and gatekeeprs are exclusively white. if you wanna know what rap is (and speak from a place of knowledge vs ignorance) ask someone who does it because they love it not because they profit from it.

pardon me while i cringe because... yuck.

since I mentioned it, and I know at least one other person on the phorum has a sense of humor....

:rotflmao: :rotflmao: :rotflmao: :rotflmao: WATCH OUT MARIAH!!!!

That song was probably the worst song I ever heard and I have lived long enough to have heard quite a few songs. Of course that makes me old.

Since it turned into a rap-bashing thread  now I'm onto bad singers, my sister and I did some serious bonding over American Idol in the early years when they exploited the bad auditions. we had lots of fun destroying many a popular song.

Contestant: "I don't understand why you won't give me another chance."
Simon: "I'll tell you why, cuz I just heard you sing." :rotflmao:

I am confident that Rob Halford (gay lead singer of Judas Priest which is arguably thee greatest metal band of all time) is sleeping tight that his "numba one spot" with his classically trained opera 6 octive range vocals in which he can shatter glass is safe another night....

*mic drop

It's safe, until the human instrument Kem walks in.

But I agree, 30 years ago Judas Priest was totally on top of the mountain.

wow - he hit all 2 octives flawlessly... don't get me wrong I love me some jazz and moreso blues - but it's a different beast concerning octives - and Halford hasn't been in the game for 30 years - he has been belting them out for 50 years - and still appears on every OBJECTIVE greatest octive list... so does Axl Rose actually - it's about legacy right? thats why Lamar and Tupac need to watch out right? no Sir - Kendrick and Tu have cemented their legacies - no need to worry about a whimsical novelty riffer who is 24 years old quite yet...

Novelty riffer? Kem is the heir to Bobby Mcferrin's throne of jazz virtuoso. This performance was lightwork, his vocal range actually spans 4 octaves and his career two decades. Self-taught musician, writer, producer, collaborated with the likes of Stevie Wonder who doesn't work with just anyone (except that dreadful disney duet with 98 degrees but we forgave him for that). Grammy nominee, Billboard Music Award winner, but higher goal posts for black artists and downplaying our accomplishments and abilities isn't anything new. :-P

PS "objective" isn't really a fair word for white-dominated publications that have all but closed the door on black artists since before any of our grandparents were born. you took our sounds, called them something else and rewarded yourselves for doing so without so much as a thankyou note for our massive influence. your bands and artists have all the prestige because the people who make those Top 10 lists are all their peers. truth is behind every great white act is a black choreographer, black producer, black writer, or a white producer who was influenced by black music. Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Green Day, these kinda bands are little more honest about their recipe and pay more respect to the culture than others.

if i concede that white guys are better at everything than everybody else and assume that most of you "don't like rap cuz it's just jungle noise from a bunch of delinquents" can we go back to laughing at bad musical performances? semi-changing course to bad music videos. but i'd be lying if i said this song isn't kinda catchy.

I watched about a minute of it and turned it off. Sorry, mate, but it is not an insult to anyone's culture not to like a style of music. I don't care who is 'reciting' it, I so not like it, and never will. That is not disrespecting anyone's culture. That is nothing more than not liking the music.

By the way, I don't like Rock. I don't like Heavy Metal. I don't like Country. I don't like Crooners. I don't like Jazz. I don't like Blues. I don't like Zydeco. I don't like music that I don't like any more than you don't like music that you don't like. That is not insulting anyone's culture.

Have a nice day.

Debating who's the best is so yesterday, how about the worst? Nominees for worst rap video

not gonna lie, this song is actually kinda catchy, but i could find melodic value in a sick wolf howling so i'm whatever the opposite of biased is. super unbiased?

This has to be in contention

Um, duh? If you can't see where you veered right when you should've made a hard left I dunno what to tell you. It's a cultural difference. If we don't like something we politely decline or scroll past, we don't say anything especially if we aren't the target audience. The comment section for heavy metal or country music videos isn't full of black people going "UGH WHAT IS THIS NOISE" "WHERE DA BEAT AT YO" "THIS MUSIC IS REALLY DEPRESSING" yet almost every rap video has a group of white guys high-fiving each other in the comments while insulting the genre. as a friend i'm obligated to inform you that this trend doesn't do favors for the likability of your demographic which, as it stands, seems to be at critical levels with a lot of people.

But c'est la vie. you and i were overdue for a quarrel we've never gotten along for this amount of time.
