How long was it after you guys broke up that you got back together ? Did it last ? What changed ?

It never lasts. Don't do it. Once it's done, move on to greener pastures and don't look back. Some things can never be fixed once it's broken.

Yeah. You always hope you can get back together. But most of the time you just have to move on. Because if he still wants you, he will seek you out.

We dated for about half a year when I was 20, nasty breakup, did various forms of circling each other for years that always ended, then got back together when I was 32. We were both too young, too horny, had too many semi-closet and 'phobic issues that had to work themselves out. Going on 8 years now.

Turns out we are actually pretty compatible, we just had to grow up to figure that out.

Looking at the OP's post history and assuming it's all with the same guy, it really feels like you're both just not happy with each other. Why drag it out and torture each other even further?

only if something has changed.

there's a huge difference between a couple who's constantly on-again/off-again versus breaking up, having some serious time/distance after the relationship to reflect on why it failed and grow as a person, and then giving it another shot.

I usually have a scorched earth policy after breakups and cut off all contact if I have any choice in the matter, so I've never gotten back together with an ex. I thought about it as a possibility with my last boyfriend after we broke up, but he would have had to make some serious life changes for me to consider it (and the fact that he's not capable of that is the reason why we broke up in the first place)

The thing to remember we considering getting back together is that "actions speak louder than words." Too many people get suckered back in because the words sound right. This is especially true when addictions are involved. As the tune from My Fair Lady states, "don't talk of love, show me."

Many, many couples get back together. Sometimes it works; sometimes is the same shit or worse. I always advise people that if it was once good it's worth a shot to try again, but if abuse was involved there needs to be some type of outside intervention.

Been there. Done that. Got the t-shirt.

As stated from others, chances are, the reason you broke up in the first place will resurface as the reason you will split up again. People don't change THAT drastically! Sure there is the rare circumstance that it can work out but almost always, just say 'no'.

I have had enough suckers come crawling back wanting a second chance but they broke up with me! I'm not that bug-eyed to buy into their nonsense.

I don't think I've ever gotten back with an ex from a relationship standpoint. Afterall, there was a reason for the break up. However, I will admit I have continued to have sex with an ex (basically becoming fuck buddies) because the sex was great. But after a while that, too, begins to fade...and it's best to move on.

Isn't the reason for the original breakup an important fact to know in addition to the other questions?

i let a good friend move in with me then soon realized he was more than i could handle, hes roughly 7 years younger than me and i felt like his parent. still love him deeply, wish i wouldn't have thought i could handle anything that would happened i was just too naive and blinded.

It's never a good idea to get back together with an ex. Guess what? You guys broke up for a reason.

Unfortunately, people do not change.

There are so many guys out there looking for true love. You'll find a guy that you cannot imagine breaking up with. Then, you'll know that you found the one.

For those of you who got back with your ex, how long was it between when you broke up and when you got back together ?

If I got back together with an ex, I'd have to have sex with a woman for the first time.

My ex two weekends ago asked both of my roommates to go out and get drinks with him. One didn't go and the other one went. He doesn't even talk to them and let alone doesn't even like the one that went out with him. Are these just games ? Like seriously it's so weird.
