If you were ever a smoker... at what age did you try your first cigarette? I was 10 years old. Thankfully I quit.

I grew up in a house full of second hand smoke; my parents were filthy smokers and had cigarettes burning in almost every room. They'd light one and walk away, then light anther one and walk away. I was smoking before I could walk, and I'd sneak puffs off their cigarettes from age 6 because it looked cool. I was a full time smoker by age 12. It was the hardest thing in my life to do but I finally quit in 2010.

^ Interesting. I grew up with parents smoking as well but I always thought it was disgusting and it taught me to hate it. I've never smoked.

I was about 19 when I started and 32 when I quit after my first pulmonary embolism.

I was about 10 also. My brother (2 yrs older) hung out with older guys who smoked so I thought it was cool. Both my parents smoked. I didn't smoke much til high school, esp. senior year when you could smoke during lunch period when teachers/admin mostly smoked. Smoked til I was 22 when I watched my dad suffer and die from emphysema. My mother continued to smoke and did even after she had to go into a nursing home. She'd look for nurses/cna's and ask if she could have one, then be taken out to the break/smoking area outdoors She lived to be 94 but her last few years were not pretty!

I smoked my first fag when I was 10, but I didn't really take up smoking on a daily basis until my mid-twenties.

I gave up more than ten years ago partly thanks to the encouraging example set by GSDX here on JUB

I suppose I was about 12 when I tried my first cigarette. It was so awful that I never tried a second one.

I've never smoked. I think around the age of 10 one old man made me try a cigarette but as I brought it to my lips I had a sense of nausea and gave it back to him.

ew no, and age this wonderful ebony skin prematurely? no thanks, cigs are gross. I barely like smoking weed I'm mostly eating it these days, the lungs are a precious instrument'chaknow.

I was 12 years old. I started because it was a good excuse for me to stand beside the 13 yr old boy I fancied
I gave up 10 years ago next week

My parents smoked and still do in their 90's

I tried cigars and cigarettes at home when a kid, but never became a smoker. Currently, three of four of my siblings smoke. Mother was a chain smoker and died of emphysema a month after her mother passed. Mother's dad smoked cigars and died at age 65 of a massive stroke caused by his emphysema.

I'd rather just die from good eating.

Jesus Lord.

My grandfather died with a Lucky Strike in his hand. It fell out and landed cherry side down and was standing straight up burned into the carpet when we found him. 3 packs a day for 40 some years and died a year after he sold the factory and retired. Everywhere I went with him I got smoked out. Same for my parents and one day they just quit. I smoked some in high school but mostly pot and I smoked hookh for about a year and a half, just got up one day and threw it in the trash.

I have a slightly complicated history with cigarettes.

I had my first full cigarette when I was 19. Smoked lightly for a couple of weeks after that, but threw the pack away before I was finished with it and quit. I didn't start until until I was 26 when I was dealing with a particularly stressful time in my life... and then it wouldn't become a daily thing until recently at 28.
