  • Hi Guest - Did you know?
Hot Topics is a Safe for Work (SFW) forum.

If you were to move to another place, where would it be and why?

Why there in particular?
My mother's family is Dutch and honestly, the city is so incredibly comfortable and livable that we could pack up the cats, park ourselves in a nice canal side house and be happy for the rest of our lives...it just always feels like home.

Right, I'd forgotten about the family connection. Sorry!

Any reason for Amsterdam in particular? When I'm fantasizing about moving to Holland (and they should totally give me residence there because I'm said to be descended from Johan van Oldenbarneveldt), I can never decide between Amsterdam and Utrecht. Besides being pretty and less overrun with tourists, Utrecht is right at the center of the national rail system, so it'd be easy to get to and from other places if I wanted to do something there. Or maybe Haarlem, which is pretty and very close to Amsterdam.

In Amsterdam, would you be willing to live in one of the newfangled places on the IJ, or would you insist on a standard old canal house?

I like Amsterdam too. There are some nice streets on the south side of Vondelpark. I expect it's very expensive though.

Oh we would insist on a 1B flat in an old canal house.....hahaha...that is about the most we could likely afford there.

I would be happy probably anywhere in the Netherlands, but if I were to move anywhere again, it would be to be in the thick of urban life and not apart from it.

If I could ud move back to New York City. NY is so diverse and open accepting of everybody. Also, the city literally never sleeps
At any time of the day or night i can get a pizza. I mean, it's just great.

Not quite so true, especially post-pandemic. It's never been quite as easy to get stuff to eat here overnight as people think. Not impossible, no, but not easy.

For some reason, many of the Korean places on 32nd Street between 5th and 6th Avenues in Manhattan are open all night; at least you can rely on those if you're nearby.

Paris, because my lover lives there. Antwerp because I have friends there. London... because of what happened. Or Madrid or Barcelona again, or Neuköln in Berlin or Stuttgart... or maybe Vienna for the first time.

Rome? La Paz? Mendoza? Valparaiso (haven't been there) Cochabamba, Bolivia.

Back to Wageningen?

Someplace warm! Not hot but temperate preferred I wouldnt mind California but the wildfires would kill me! Florida is too humid open to suggestion!

I know thar in my neighborhood Kennedy fried stayed open all night, white cables on Fordham was open 24/7, and there was this pizza place off of Fordham and Jerome up past 189th that stayed open. This was post pandemic, I mean, they just did

I live in tn. Our winters aren't long but the summers are hot. It's architecture and we've been in 60's-70s since early February.
