Zanzibar. Ran out of emotional energy to exist in the western world. Hubby and I are on a 15 year plan to kiss America goodbye.

Why Zanzibar in particular (as opposed to anywhere else in Africa or the Indian Ocean islands)?

Nice weather, still has remnants of nature, culturally diverse without threats of civil war every 6 months, although technically the true answer for "why" is cuz big papa said so and I'm a "yes daddy" type of bitch. My first choice would've been Morocco but sometimes you gotta let men make a few decisions so they can feel like they're in charge. You only get so many vetoes and this just isn't a hill I'm willing to die on.

Well, sure! But you'd look hot chillaxing in those on a beach with nice clear blue water in Mauritius or the Seychelles or Trinidad or Aruba, too. And they're also culturally diverse and have nice weather and remnants of nature.

I dunno what I am, long story. The goal was Africa, I chose Morocco because of its cuisine and proximity to Spain. And it's just modern enough that we can have animalistic sex with a view of beautiful mountain ranges outside the window and still feel connected to the birthplace of civilization. God just thinking about it got a bitch chubbed up. Papa Bear is gonna pick South Africa for a honeymoon spot but that's when I play the guilt trip and remind him that I let him pound my hole into oblivion.

I live in tn. Our winters aren't long but the summers are hot. It's architecture and we've been in 60's-70s since early February.

I would love that 60-70 in the winter and a nice hot summer.

South Carolina in the winter can be sunny and in the 60s during the day one week and rainy and in the low 40s the next week. And you definitely get frosts there. But an entire day below freezing is rare, and spring more or less starts at the very end of February. (It wasn't until I went to college in Virginia that I realized that camellias were supposed to be spring flowers and not winter flowers, because they start up in February in SC.)

That really depends on the variety. Many camellias begin blooming in autumn and bloom right through winter, so they are not really triggered by spring temperatures (rising) or daylight increasing. There are varieties that do.

And, some do better in freezing temps, but most blooms will "burn" if exposed to frost, even though the average temperatures may be mild and conducive to growing them.

They are grown as an understory shrub, which helps protect them, even though that is often under pines, which means they get showered with needles falling at that time, which detracts from their appeal.

In my home state of Arkansas, we generally had ideal temperatures, but Japonica was so disease prone that it meant you'd be spraying fungicide heavily to combat powdery mildew, so Sasanqua was the go-to if you didn't want to deal with all that poison.

One of the houses I rented about 30 years ago had a gorgeous pink Japonica named Mathotiana with blue highlights that was so wonderful.

And, my late friend Carl had dozens of both types on his property, and walking through them was like being in some kind of wonderland in winter.
