If you were to own an exotic animal what would it be?

All objections aside as well as other X-factors.

I would like a panda or a polar bear.

I have a gecko and a snake. So... they are my answer.

Both are a joy to have and don't require insane care needs. Just my cup of tea. :D

Plus, neither can eat me.

*yawn*

If you can buy it, captive bred, in a pet shop it hardly counts as an an 'exotic animal' these days.

Dear lord, I would never buy an animal from a pet store.

IMO, reputable private breeders that actually care about the animals and have a passion for their conservation and well-being are the only way to go.

I think most people consider 'exotics' anything other than a dog/cat/hamster/fish.

I have one now. A Radiated Tortoise from Madagascar. They are endangered and protected and I have a permit to house them.

I would love to have a Great Horned Owl, although that is impossible

I would have a leprechaun.

Bird of paradise. Ever seen Planet Earth? Those things are incredible to look at AND do hilarious dances.

Either that or a quetzal, another beautiful bird (the last photo).

I'm artsy and like pretty things ;P

I would love to have a manatee

I saw a couple of those last week in the bayou at the end of my street in the mangroves. Surprised because the water is so cold and its rare to see them in cold water, but common most of the year I hope they found their way to the electric plant where they stay in the warm water when it gets below 70 f.

Another place to see the land manatee is at the swimming pool at the Flamingo Resort. Lots of them bouncing around the pool deck.

burmese python

I like those. I've got to hold a few before.

That hurts. I go there a lot.

I'm fine with just a dog but I would like to keep a butterfly garden where lots of colourful butterflies come and go. Like a really big peaceful garden on one side of my house where I can go and sit and watch all the butterflies and other animals fluttering around and playing. I guess butterflies don't really count as pets though because they can just come and go and they don't all live very long.

if it would act like a dog kinda (being it would chill out and sit on the floor and like to be pet and wrestled with and wouldn't kill me) i'd totally get a polar bear too. for sure.

Black Panther, Snow Leopard or a regular Leopard...

i've always made fun of our zoo here as it's pretty lame, but i went this last fall with a couple friends on a whim and saw that they not only had 2 bactrian camels, but they also had 2 snow leopards. both of which i'm pretty sure i saw on "planet earth" as being two of the rarest animals in the world. wtf? it was pretty weird.

Snow Leopards are endangered, but the one that was on the episode of Planet Earth that you are talking about was an Amur Leopard which is critically endangered. It is the rarest feline on the planet with only about 40 left in the wild. There aren't many in captivity either I believe, so unfortunately I don't think they have much of a chance.

Bactrian camels I think are more common in captivity, but they are also critically endangered and only have about 1000 left in the wild.
