We do not need this kind of attitude. Of course, bathhouses are not for everyone - but do not condemn those who choose to go.
There is nothing disgusting about going to a place where men can meet, enjoy each other, watch, relax.....whatever your mood is. Any bathhouse I've ever been to has plenty of safe sex info., free condoms, many even have STD testing and counseling.

That's true. But I did a little casual Googling and found the following study:

which studied behavior of men who go to the baths or to public cruising areas.

First of all, half of all MSM (Men who have Sex with Men) reported going to one or the other -- a revealing statistic in itself. And of those who go to baths, 34% reported having unprotected anal intercourse with a nonprimary partner in the last year. The comparable number for men who go to "cruising areas" is lower, I would guess because fewer people have anal sex there.

So that's 1 out of 3. And men who use "party drugs" are particularly likely to go to the baths.

Still doesn't say baths are unsafe, but to me it says -- if you absolutely feel like you must have unsafe sex, the baths is not the place to do it. A very very good time to use the rule -- always assume your partner is positive.

There are other studies too, but I haven't had time to dig them out yet.
 
So are there any actual BATHS or bathing going on in a bathouse? I've never been...just wondering.
 
You don't HAVE to have sex at a bathhouse. Sometimes it's just fun to watch. On top of that I feel that it's a much more relaxed place to meet other gay men than going to a smoke filled, noisy, stuffed to the walls, everyones drunk, bar. I've gone to a couple and had a great time just TALKING to some people. Sure a monogamous relationship is best, but until then.......
 
For the reasons I stated above. Or to just "get off". Either way, they can be VERY relaxing. Try it just for their saunas and whirlpools, or just to work out in their weight rooms. Either way, don't knock it till you've tried it, at least once.
 
Well I frequent the local bathhouses frequently. Most of the establishments in Toronto are clean and activly encourage safe sex - free condoms - Warning Posters of STD'd etc.

The reason I go is that sometimes a dude gets horny and at the bathhouse you don't need to go through all the pickup bullshit first, everyone is there for the same reason and the anonymity is great - no posing etc, you can be whoever you want and do whatever you want without worrying what people might think.

Also a great place to get in on some orgy action in a relativly safe environment.

I always play safe and will pass on dudes who play otherwise BUT it is a personal choice - each to their own.

The great thing there is that you can play with more than one cock and no one gets jellous.

If the bathhouse is not your scene then that is the right choice for you but I have fun there.
