If anyone is going to know the answer to this, it will be on this forum.

I want to buy an Ikea Mattress set. What I am really after is the Atna box Spring, because it uses coil springs and not the wood foundation of the hard z shaped metal. However, I have a tight fit coming up the stairs to get the mattress into my bedroom.

Does the Atna box spring have rigid sides, or no? If it does not, I should be able to compress it enough to get it to make the corner over the bannister. If it does have a solid/stiff side wall, then I can't do it. I am too tall to move down to a double. But I dont want to spend $1500 bucks on a custom one!

People still buy beds with coil springs? Why?

I suggest buying a memory foam bed that doesnt require springs... as mouf suggest... in his way..... OR if your dead set on traditional mattress setup then go with a King. They have Twin Sized box springs, so that may be able to clear when stood straight up.....

I wouldn't be able to get the king mattress up the stairs - let alone fit it in my bedroom!

Ive pretty much tried them all. Hate the memory foam, air beds are little better. I find the box spring makes a much bigger difference than the mattress itself.

I have put my king into many small places, the mattress comes rolled up so rolling is no issue. However if it doesnt fit in your room... shrug. Never noticed much a difference from the box spring. Why dont you go to IKEA or mattress store and look?

Buy a latex mattress. chiros recommend them. DO NOT buy a select comfort!!!!!!!

I bought my mattress from Sleep Country. Not only did they deliver it to my house, but they also took away the old one.

IKEA is the "Walmart" of the furniture world. It would be best to avoid them if you can.

^Yes absolute rubbish!

Worst thing to come out of Sweden!

But... most mattress stores no longer offer box springs that still have springs in them. Why of all places Ikea does, I don't know. But it does. Otherwise, I would have to order from a custom mattress manufacturer. And we are talking $700 versus $1700.

There's no IKEA in my city, but I have been to the one in Calgary. it's an interesting store with a lot of cool things, but I just wouldn't buy furniture from there.
There's a similar store here called JYSK. It's described as the poor man's IKEA :)

IKEA stores are just good to look at and get ideas from. I agree with all who say : Stay Away from Products

Yeah, it's not like I am interested in longevity. It only has to last a couple of years at most.

For what it is worth - it has a wooden side frame. Has springs, but has the frame, thus not compressible, thus, not going to fit up the stairs.

I've got some ikea stuff which has been used 20 years. I'm no precious novelty-queen.
