Summer is definitely over: even though I still wear just the thin, high-neck, "mock turtleneck" in the street, and today I was still wearing my favorite summer trousers, I already have to wear socks with the slip-on, and the temperature at home is already only 24ºC.

The next six months and a half will mean more clothing, in a few weeks, higher natural gas bills, no carefree fasting during the day, less daylight time...](*,)

You are so spoiled.

Here it is near freezing at night. Cold at about 5 to 11Cduring the day.....I already have more layers than Wuthering Heights or One Hundred Years of Solitude....but am I complaing?

Yes!

I am so depressed today. My existential crisis occurs every year around November 1st when I realize we are at the border of winter and civilization...rather like the Wall in Game of Thrones. White Walkers abound.

But the one solace I have this year is that we had fresh tomatoes from our garden for 5 months. The last 4 are on the counter waiting to be lovingly enjoyed before we slip into despair.

Oh. And Daylight deprivation?

This afternoon when we came home I went around and turned on all the lights on the main floor...even in the rooms we aren't occupying so that if I walk by or through them, there is a soft golden glow on the artwork.

I have got it bad as well.

Give it two months. Christmas will be out of the way and we'll be able to look forward to lengthening days and the arrival of spring.

BTW: now that everything is closed up and cozy for the night, it's up to 25ºC again

December 25-26! It would not even have peaked in Spain: in December 27 starts the ten-day Christmas Festival for kids in BCN, and then also opens Saint Thomas' gift fair for "Twelfth Night", once the Saint Lucia Christmas is over.

But it's true by then days will already be longer (!) (!)

For Fuck's sakes.

I am listening to a compilation of 'Autumnal' music...and it is almost all Lachrymosas, dirges and incredibly sad etudes......

popping vitamin D and making plans to get out of here to some sun and warmth---if winter ended Jan 1 from now until then I could deal with---but Jan Feb and March are the worst.

The main reason I'm jacking my job in at Christmas

Yes, the long dark days of winter are depressing, but maybe that is partially why we decorate with bright Christmas lights to make the season more cheerful. Also sometimes there is white snow in the winter which reflects whatever light there is.

Yes. I loath the Christmas period, Winter and cold weather, but at least once we pass the Solstice I know things will improve again.

Summer in the city is dreary when you don't have the money or inclination to go anywhere or do anything.

I like the coziness of winter. Less street noise. Better sleep. Kitty doesn't snuggle in bed with me when the weather's warm.

I also like the winter light. My bedroom faces east so I get brilliant, almost blinding sun in there all morning.

And snow. Lots of snow. I hope it snows six feet this year.

^ You're a hobo soul with the money and inclination to keep a high-maintenance home to withstand the rigours of winter

I favor autumn. I like the colors of fall, I like the temperature of fall. I like the smell of fall.

If only we could ban leaf blowers

For someone always making such fun of older age, you profess a great love for decay

That's the nicest thing you ever said to me.
