I hate violence and the thought of watching Dahmer is just uncomfortable, especially being that it is based on a true story. But I have finally started watching it on Netflix, and I'm okay so far. Several freaky moments, but thankfully not too graphic so far. Signs of how a mind can do such things. I'm such a chicken. I'm being careful when I watch it. I don't want to watch it before I go to bed because I don't want to dream about it.

"we were six times more lethally violent than the average mammal, but about as violent as expected for a primate. But time and social organizations have sated our ancestral bloodthirst, leaving us with modern rates of lethal violence that are well below the prehistoric baseline. We are an average member of an especially violent group of mammals, and we’ve managed to curb our ancestry."

I remember it. I read the books about it.

I watched the documentary interview.

I am good without letting his story take up space in my head again....

The Dahmer series can be watched on Netflix here:

I just finished it. I'm so thankful it was not graphic. Horrifying but also interesting. It is also more proof to me that the human brain is not always rational. Another example of that would be if the human brain was rational, then Feinstein and McConnell would not have run for re-election.

They also have a documentary: Conversations with a Killer: The Jeffery Dahmer Tapes. Might as well watch that one as well

The documentary is what I had watched.

It was chilling enough.

I'm not abashed by horror, but I don't feel compelled to follow his story.

Modern media overhypes violence in general, and serial killers even moreso.

His story seems epic in that he appears to be a victim of his own mania, albeit not on par with his victims.

I don't think humans are particularly violent. Consider how many we are and what small number are violent.

Most are bullies as mob members as they come through elementary school, but settle out to peaceful lives where they cheer on warriors on football fielfs.

The vast majority of people are not violent.

Those who learn the benefits of living within the boundaries of a civilization, grow up to be law abiding people, are only agreeing to put their violent tendencies on a back burner in hopes that everyone else will do the same.

We did watch this a while back. The actor did a good job with the role I think. No clue who he is though.

Just Googled Evan Peters. Looks so different.

It has actual taped interviews with Dahmer in it and real photos 😲 , and it gives more information than the series did. There are a few things I would have added to the movie, like the alter and why he ate them. What he did was even worse than I have previous read or could have imagined.

^ Dahmer hid in religion. Gacy hid in politics and childrens' parties. As a clown, his make-up broke all the rules.

I read a book about him years ago. He was one scary dude.

I'm watching the Gacy documentary. Very different reasons for the killings but both illogical. Both happened during a time when the majority of the public and police looked negatively at gay people. I think that may have made it easier to get away with it for such a long time. Gacy killed more people, 33. Dahmer killed 17. Both had fathers that were not good parents.

If all citizens in this country could easily get mental health care/counseling, could that have prevented these things from happening? The constant mass shootings in this country tells me that we are still a very ill country. Over time, I would hope that we could make changes that would improve society.

Maybe if people stopped watching movies and documentaries on serial killers?

And it's always the same ones. Dahmer, Gacy, Bundy. Yawn.

If people want to celebrate humanities worst impulses, at least have the balls to make films about Albert FIsh or Dean Corll.
