Both Tony and I have have been extremely busy with work, so there hasn't been much spare time to update this thing. But I've got some exciting news (Exciting for me anyway).
Tony has some vacation time that he has to use in next few weeks or lose, so we were talking about were we wanted to go this year for our vacation. Because of all the terrorist actions recently, we didn't want to go too far, we talked about going west to Hawaii (where we both have been several times), south to Mexico, or North to Vancouver Canada. We then talked about the change in the marriage laws and how gay marriage is now the law of the land in Canada, and before we knew it, we decided to go to Canada and get married next month (August 2005).
It's almost ironic, because if my parents were alive this year would be their 60th anniversary. But 60 years ago it was illegal for my parents to get married in the US. My father was Filipino, and my mother was white, so in order to get married, they had to go to VANCOUVER CANADA. I had forgotten all of this until I had told my sister that we were going to Vancouver to get married, and it was then she mentioned that was where mom and dad got married. I then figured that this would have been their 60th anniversary.
It seems almost fitting that like my parents before me, that in order to marry the person I love, I must leave the USA and go to a Canada. Of course the big difference is, when my parents got married, and came back to the US, everyone accepted their Canadian marriage license and treated them as a lawfully wedded couple. We will be treated as a lawfully wedded couple only in Canada. Here in the USA we will still be legal strangers.
I know I have to be patient regarding the marriage laws here in the US, but its becoming so clear to me that the present laws are so wrong. I want them changed NOW. My frustration has pushed me into joining the local chapter of Equality California which is working on changing the marriage laws here in Calif (since there is no way the laws at the federal level will be changed anytime soon! Not with you know who in the white house)
As I mentioned earlier, Tony and I have been trying to meet some new friends and we finally found another couple that seems to have the same interests and outlook that we have. We had them over to dinner for the first time in May, and we had a great time.
I love to cook, so pulled out all the stops. I made roasted red pepper soup, a shrimp and crab salad, roast chicken, rice pilaf, and steamed asparagus. For desert we had cheesecake with a blueberry sauce. While I didn't make the cheesecake, I did make the blueberry sauce. Everything turned out really well and I was very pleased by with the evening.
For the 4th of July, they invited us over to there house to watch the fireworks from their patio. They live on a hillside and have a view of the local fireworks. We met some other very nice gay couples, that we would like to get to know better, so we will be having more dinner parties in the near future.
I am finding that as more time passes, I am finding that the discussions here are just not interesting anymore. I will probably update my bog one more time, and then sign off permanently. It was interesting for awhile, but I find I have better things to do with my time.
