A break from JUB is always useful. More to life than online entities.

When you do return I suggest the following:

Before you type the URL or click on the bookmark say to yourself... it is not about me a few times and then join the fray.

Lefty you hit it on the head IMHO as you have a tendency to do. HT used to be playful cat fights in the afternoon sun and it has become an extension of CEP for many reasons.

I go on hiatus once in a while, and I recommend it.

In your situation, while you're away, I also recommend meeting people offline. If you meet any republicans, (I mean every day run of the mill republicans, not the ones confined to house arrest in some cabin somewhere), you might want to remind them of this:



And then ask them why they fight so hard to attack the dignity, character, and humanity of every gay man like you and me.

That you will simply have to learn to deal with, Jay, not only here, but amongst a great many gay communities in the U.S., at least as long as the Republican party allows itself to be represented and pervaded by open and flagrant homophobes. If the B.N.P (British National Party; a small fringe party of racist, nationalist thugs here in the U.K.) were to gain some significant political sway here in the U.K., I wouldn't expect to engage with certain ethnic and/or racial minorities here and have them keep quiet about it or be in any way polite or tolerant concerning the situation. I'd expect them to be angry, especially towards those of their own communities who sympathise with the party (and yes, they do exist. It's amazing how similar their justifications are to those used by gay Republicans both in tone and general structure).

As for taking time away from the internet and engaging with people face to face, good for you. I'd particularly advise finding certain cultural, political and philosophical groups who don't believe as you believe, or think as you think. Talk with them, engage with them as human beings. See what happens.
