See you bitches later!
Just kidding, I'm actually not going for me personally.

I have an assignment in my psychology course where i was given a list of topics I could do. Sexuality was a catergory, and ex-gay therapy was a topic i could do.

So I'm going to my church's ex-gay therapy class (haha) and I'm going to ask the speaker questions. Have any questions?

Not that I want you all to do my homework for me, but in case you've ever had a question you've wanted to ask an ex-gay therapist, nows your chance. I'll ask him when I interview him, and I'll post later in the thread what he has to say.

I'm already going to ask him about failure/success rate, I don't expect him to tell the truth either.

I guess you can't ask him if he can get it up with his girlfriend and assuming he can, how it compares to a guy...

You should ask him how he feels about the fact that the suicide rate from people coming out of ex-gay therapies is quite higher than for the average population, and for the homosexual population specifically.
Or the fact that the rates of depression or other psychological disorders of people coming out of those therapies is higher also.
You should ask him how much "helping" he is really doing, when a good proportion of his clients will experience an even lower quality of life.

IDK, I am a product of ex-gay therapy. So, maybe I am just a little bitter :P

Noted. I'll probably be a little more subtle about it and not so passive aggressive haha. I'm lucky he even agreed to do it, then again he is a "family friend".

ask him how this so-called therapy works, and what methods are used, and tell him about the potential harm that the therapy can cause. tell him that the Catholic Church does accepts the fact that gays are homosexual through no fault of their own.
I'm going to stay for the therapy session itself, so I'll tell you what he says/techniques he's using to trick these people.

And this isn't catholic domination so I probably wont bring that up.

Probably a good idea. I have a feeling if you went in there with my attitude they would just attack you lol.

What denomination is it? BTW, the Catholic Church isn't a denomination.
Congregation? Idk the term for it.

Anyways, christian. Even though they're based off similar values and both stemmed from the same religion, it still wont fly well? Ever talked to a close minded christian?

a couple years ago, a huge group of Ex-Gays finally came clean and admitted that the therapy that they had pushed for years and years hadn't worked on anyone, including them.

They apologized to the gay community for the pain they had caused. Too late to save the lives of countless dead kids.

The founders of the UK Exodus (or something) eventually admitted that not a single person they had treated had ever changed. Then they came out and got together as a couple.

Ask him if he'd like to address the issue of the FACT that ex-gay therapy doesn't work and has never worked for anyone. Every time someone holds themselves up as an example of the therapy working, it turns out that they either still ARE gay (like John Paulk) or they never were (like his pretend ex-lesbian wife).

Ask him if he ever feels guilty for the pain and suffering that Ex-Gay therapy causes and if he feels he should be held responsible for the suicides of the people whom he treated but didn't change.

Then do me a favor and punch him really hard in the nose.

I'll look up some failure rates and statistics to use later in the interview, but this is for an assignment so I dont want to play with too much fire.

And I would love to punch him in the nose, maybe when I leave I'll pop him a good one.

Some who heard our message were compelled to try to change an integral part of themselves, bringing harm to themselves and their families. Although we acted in good faith, we have since witnessed the isolation, shame, fear, and loss of faith that this message creates. We apologize for our part in the message of broken truth we spoke on behalf of Exodus and other organizations.

Ask him why he was aroused by cocks in first place. Ask him in a way to make him arouse and check his bulge occasionally to see if it grows bigger. If it is, you could point out he still being a gay and his treatment as a complete failure.

Tell him that, why the aramaic bible which is 100% true word of God is not a homophobic book while their King James Version is homophobic.

WOW...

That's a fascinating project you're working on...

I guess my main question would be...

WHY do you think people should live differently from who they are???

And from a Christian perspective -- why would God create gay people if he intended for them to live in shame???

Good luck with the interview -- I'm looking forward to hear your update...

:):):)

ask him if not being gay has made him happy and, if he says he is happy, ask him how he knows that he's happy (ie what things in his life as a non-gay man indicate that he's happy now).

Dude, you mean to say you belong to a church that holds these kinds of views and sessions?

I have a question for you, not for your ex-gay counselor:

If they're being deceptive by having conversion (reparative, or whatever) sessions, what else are they being deceptive about?

Why would you ever trust a church that does this kind of thing?

Something is seriously fucked up here....

Oh, that's interesting. No, MORE than interesting!

I've always suspected the King James translation. Who knows whether he gave some stipulations to the translators? Perhaps the translators themselves had an agenda of some kind?

This is actually the first I've heard this - that the original Aramaic book was NOT homophobic. Is there a link to this?

Jasun, you pointed out that Exodus has never worked, and some of the notable people in that organization are apologizing. But...I also assume that the organization still exists, and still tries to "cure" people. Is that true? If so, it's plenty of proof that they DO NOT CARE about people themselves, or that suicides or lifelong dysfunctions often result, etc.

But we knew that already...if it was entirely legal for them to kill gay people at will, they'd be "curing" them that way, and they'd be very happy about it...

Ask him how he continues to practice a therapy which has been condemed by every proffesional body in the US. Including the APA, The College of Physicians and all the rest.

Ask him what his "State" Qualifications are. And then ask who provides his malpractice insurance?

The fact is he cannot be certified in most places and be practicing this theropy therefore he automaticaly is a QUACK.

I feel you're trying to turn this thread into another drama filled shit fest.

Anyways, while I don't need to explain anything to you, I will.
We have a seperate building that is used for bible studies and we rent classrooms to programs.
We have alcoholics anon. on mondays and fridays, a sex addict class one tuesdays, ex-gay therapy (which is fairly new) on thursdays.

So pretty much anyone can have a class if they have the money for it.
And pretty much every day is a great day to cruise for guys.
