I'm just back from the market ..

Love going to the farmer's market and getting fresh produce. They moved the farmer's market here in Eau Claire a couple years ago, right next to the river. Really enjoyable now...

We've been growing our own vegetables in the back garden. However, we do get a lot of groceries from the local supermarket, and occasionally from the big market in town. Those mainly for meat, fish and dairy products food wise.

We're growing beans like before, but this year, we've had crows (I think they're crows) that have been pulling the shoots out :grrr:

However, we have a lot of choisum growing. We just seeded a new section today after harvesting a big box of them. There's enough for a week of eating. The older leaves and roots have gone into the compost heap. Other stuff edible in the garden includes fresh mint, spring onions, chives and garlic. For some reason, during the clearing, we found one single lone cabbage plant. Oh, we also have a long stalked type of lettuce from the far east. We got rid of the cherry tree a couple of months ago because over the last few years, it's been too much of a magnet for black fly.

I would love to grow much on my own, but I am a lazy bum. So I only have a few of the herbs for which you don't need to care much :)

Every Saturday morning -- first fresh veges and eggs from the market and then breakfast with the BF. Strawberries, tiny and red all the way through, same into season last week. Asparagus the week before.

I got all excited. I read "I just got back on the market."

Oh, well. Enjoy your zucchini.

I shop at Ralphs and Gelsons. LaBrea bakery for bread. Sprinkles for desserts. Coffe bean and tea leaf for tea. And a deli that I can never remeber the name of for cheese.

Corny, excellent pix of beautiful veggies!

I truly remember the great produce we use to get when I was stationed in Wurzburg and Mehlingen, GY while in the Air Force and the great markets where you could get all those great fruits and vegetables!

Here in La$ Vega$ we also have what we call Farmer's Markets where people bring their produce to sell to the public, some of it home-grown and others shipped in from California; but usually fresher than going to the local supermarket!

.......and the price is probably cheaper here than what you payed for there too.

I loved the sauerkraut/potatoes dish you cooked and I too remember what great, great food the German people have and still miss it terribly!(*8*)

I rarely buy fresh food, as I don't know if I'm going to eat it the same or next day. Often it's just going to rot in my fridge. If I get some, I buy it at supermarkets, it's not as fresh, but cheaper than the market.

yep .. and already used :)
