This situation is icky.
I'm interested in my guy's life and vice versa. That doesn't make me clingy or needy. The difference is I usually don't even have to text him because if he's gone somewhere for six hours, he's texted me or told me about it or made plans to meet up with me when he's done.
You're not being nosy to want to know what's going on in his day. It's not like you're trying to control him or prevent him from having a balanced life with his own friends. It's just that when you care about someone, it makes the day cheerful to hear their news.
If he doesn't want you to know these things because he has some peculiar need for elevated levels of privacy, then he isn't really ready for this relationship.
