I'm sick of Facebook results being ahead of the actual organizations

I was looking for something about GLBT volunteering in Boston and I got the Facebook page instead of the organizations page. It annoyed me. I've seen this happen a few other times. It's generally only an issue with smaller organizations, but it's kind of a pain for me.

Does this bother anyone else or is it just me?
 
Go to Google.

Type you search terms.

Following the search terms, type, " -facebook.com" without quotations.


Congratulations, your search results will be void of any sites stemming from Facebook.com.

This can also be used to remove search terms, such as Pink -color if you were searching for the song artist Pink.
 
Doesn't bother me. I mean, I CAN scroll down.

The weird one for me is for bands. When I search for any less-than-really-big-name band, for some reason, I tend to get the MySpace page first. Either more people are using MySpace than they let on, or else Google is way behind in updating relevant results...

Myspace in the past has had more activity for bands than facebook. That's because it came first. Honestly I do prefer myspace for bands. Especially streaming albums and new albums or singles. And of course smaller or new bands generally do have myspace pages.

Just the concept of facebook being used to update something or have information on is something I don't like. I don't use facebook and I don't give a damn about it. But more and more sites will update a main site, blog, or news page less and post more on facebook or twitter.

I don't think it's a good thing for organizations. I know a few in my area (not so much politicly driven but gay groups still) that have so many updates and make more announcements or discussions on facebook than the main site. I don't give a damn if "Oh you have to use facebook or you're not in" or "everyone has facebook".

I know that trick, but I'm lazy. Thanks though. :)

I use it more when searching for porn than regular searching. You have to have your priorities. :lol:

You don't have to use myspace (as in be a user) to search for bands with it and view their pages. Because it's always been the site I've associated with bands, I would be more likely to go on there to look for band info than facebook.
