I'm so old I remember............?

ISOIR I remember whittling spouts in the winter for taking maple syrup from the sugar maples in the spring, and then gathering the syrup with my parents which would be cooked for days until the syrup was the desired viscosity and some would be cooked into sugar cakes to be enjoyed in the spring evenings while we made country folk music on the front porch.

The whole house would get a sickening sweet smell which stayed for a couple of weeks at a time.

ISOIR that one of my family chores was to split the wood on the wood pile each day that my mother needed to cook on the old wood cook stove, and to heat the house with in cold weather. We had no central heat or plumbing. Also we did not have electricity, but used kerosene lamps for lighting. The house was an old family log cabin dwelling built in 1810. Today I live in a log cabin built in 1978. I love the pine plank floors and ceilings as well as the log beams.
