Do any of you guys have any tips/recommendations/warnings who have taken it?

Red Bull.

It quite literally makes me smarter momentarily.

When I took it before an exam, the words just flowed out. I remember things I didn't even think I knew.

It really gets your brain going to it's maximum potential.

Make sure you take your time and carefully answer the questions in the beginning. Once you get like 2/3s of the way through it's ok to guess and go more quickly. Since the test weighs questions at the beginning more heavily than questions at the end, you'll do better that way.

Do some studying of the common vocabulary words. There's lots of free sources online.

It's a bit late for studying, I guess, so just get plenty of sleep and eat a healthy breakfast. I didn't do either of those things, and I don't want to talk about my math score. :)

Actually, my whole GRE experience was a disaster from start to finish. I was taking it the same day -- the Friday after Thanksgiving. During the test, a tree fell on the testing center (due to a huge thunderstorm). So, with the power out, I got a voucher to take the test again.

I submitted the voucher, and they said they'd call to reschedule. They called early in the morning, eastern time; since I was living in Washington State at the time, that meant I got the call at 4:30 in the morning. I was informed that my test had been rescheduled for the next day at 2 pm. Now, I was living in a remote small town at the time, and the only way I could get to the testing center was to take a Greyhound bus that left at 3 in the morning. So yeah, no sleep, no breakfast for me. :(

But I still got in to grad school :)

Luckily I've been studying for the past few weeks. I'll definitely try the Red Bull trick!

Good luck! It is a VERY hard test and will make anyone feel stupid real fast. Advice...pace yourself and don't get discouraged if you are feeling like your are doing bad. Remember GRE scores are only part of the qualifications to get into most grad programs. I think the GRE exists only to see how well students take difficult tests. Do your best!

I had to take it a few years ago...it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be, really. Some of the vocab stuff was tough since I didn't spend as much time studying it as I should have, but besides that...definitely remember to take your time more at the beginning, as someone above said.

Good luck!

If you did well on your SATs and have a decent GPA, you'll be fine.
